About our fitted cupboards in St Pancras
Few walls in an older house are truly straight, and floors and ceilings can be out of level too. We scribe each cupboard to follow the wall and set it level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting boards, picture rails and coving are cut around or met neatly, so the cupboard sits comfortably in the room. Typical reasons to get in touch are cupboards for a utility or boot room and using the full height of a room, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
In a block, the lift, the corridors and the door to the flat set the size of each section. Around St Pancras, most households are in purpose-built flats, so fitted cupboards are drawn in sections from the start. Floors in the corridor and the flat are covered on the way in.
We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished.

Bespoke fitted cupboards or ready-made?
Flat-pack cupboards can be put together quickly by a confident DIYer, which is a fair point in their favour. A fitted cupboard needs a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, and in return the cupboard is built for your home. Large ready-made pieces can be hard to get up the stairs or into the lift, whereas fitted furniture comes in sections made for the way in. The sections are assembled once inside.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the design visit.

Questions we’re often asked
Is parking a problem for fitting in St Pancras?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Is St Pancras in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?
Yes, St Pancras is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Camden and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.
How are fitted cupboards priced?
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A small boiler cupboard and a full run of hallway storage are very different jobs, so we price it after measuring. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
What are the cupboards made of?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray painting or hand painting. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Can you box in my boiler with a fitted cupboard?
Yes, as long as the design respects the boiler’s instructions. We plan the space and ventilation around it and keep access clear for the engineer.
How much time does fitting need?
How long the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We will talk it through at the design visit.
From workshop to your room
There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Many blocks have entry systems, concierge desks or rules on booking the lift, so it’s worth checking with the managing agent in advance. Floors in the flat and the common parts are protected while the furniture comes in.
- You let us know where the cupboards should go.
- At the design visit we measure at several points, as walls and floors in older homes are rarely flat or level.
- You receive a written quote covering the design, materials and finish.
- We make the cupboards in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day each cupboard is set level on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the wall.
- The spray-painted or hand-painted finish completes the job, and new paintwork should be treated gently while it cures.
Before we arrive
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
How to get a quote
It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

What affects the price in St Pancras
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- The number of doors and drawers
- How square the room is
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.
Before the design visit
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It is useful to include:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, message us from the contact page.
Fitted cupboards in St Pancras: local notes
About 41% of the homes in the area around St Pancras went up before 1919, and about 19% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. There are 419 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of St Pancras. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. All of London, Camden included, is inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to St Pancras fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Access and parking are talked through at the design visit.
If you live near Lincoln's Inn Fields, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and fitted cupboards can give those things a place. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Pancras, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

What prompts fitted cupboards in St Pancras
A new utility room or boot room often prompts the call. Washing machines, dryers, coats, boots and cleaning things all need a place, and a run of fitted cupboards can hold them neatly.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- A neat cupboard around the boiler
- Storage in a corner nothing else fits
- Using the full height of a room
- A utility room with proper storage
Dr Johnson's House, about 0.9 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a landing recess can take a linen cupboard built to its exact size.
Before you choose who makes it
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- How doors and drawers are fitted
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
