Ask about walk-in wardrobes in Beddington
Flat-pack or bespoke?
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Beddington
Some people want doors on everything; others like open shelves and rails. Doors keep dust off and give a calm look, while open storage lets you see everything at once. The choice is yours, and we will go through it when we measure. If your home has proper shoe storage and a dressing area in part of a bedroom, walk-in wardrobes made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, so fitted storage usually goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Around Beddington, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so that shape of room is worth knowing. Every wall is measured, as a room that looks square rarely is.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Walk-in wardrobes in Beddington: local notes
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 52% of the housing in the streets around Beddington, with about 22% built between 1973 and 1999, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Beddington, Historic England’s list includes Beddington Place (great Hall Only) (Grade I), less than half a mile west, and Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin (Grade II*), under half a mile west. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
For a family home near Beddington Park Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. If you live in a period home close to Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. Close to Waddon Ponds? Walk-in wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Beddington?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
Does a conservation area in or near Beddington affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Can a box room become a walk-in wardrobe?
Often, yes. We can line a small room with hanging, shelving and drawers, while leaving space to stand and turn. We will measure and plan it at the measuring visit.
How much time does fitting need?
The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We’ll talk it through at the measuring visit.
My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so it sits tight to the room.
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Flats, leases and landlords
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Fitting day, step by step
In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.

Advice
What it’s made from
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers keep smaller clothes and accessories tidy, and they can sit below the hanging or within a run of shelves.
Hand-painted finish
If you’d like the units to match the room’s woodwork, hand painting on site works well.
Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Beddington
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- How many doors and drawers there are
- How big the furniture is
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
Before the design visit
What helps most when you first contact us:
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- How you want to use the space
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, then send a quote in writing. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
