Fitted wardrobes in Shanklin Village, Sutton
Planning fitted wardrobes for a home in Shanklin Village? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing, before anything is made.
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- A room too narrow for hinged doors
- Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
Fitted wardrobes for your home in Shanklin Village
How we price fitted wardrobes
Several things affect the price:
- The number of doors and drawers
- The overall size of the piece
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- The internal fittings
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit, and the quote follows.
Getting in touch
To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Your postcode and the borough
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
To get a quote, use our contact form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a written quote afterwards.
Fitted wardrobes in Shanklin Village: what you get
A fitted wardrobe is built into the room itself, running floor to ceiling and wall to wall. That leaves no gap above to gather dust and no wasted space at the sides. For a bedroom in Shanklin Village, the first step is a design visit to measure up and talk through the design. People normally come to us about an awkward slope in a loft bedroom and a room too narrow for hinged doors; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Around Shanklin Village, most households live in purpose-built flats, and blocks often have rules on lift booking, deliveries and working hours. Checking with the building’s managing agent early keeps the day running smoothly. A leasehold flat may need consent for fixing to walls, so check your lease first.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the fitted wardrobe we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Flats, conversions and lettings
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls during the design visit.
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Fitted wardrobes in Shanklin Village: local notes
About 38% of the homes in the area around Shanklin Village went up between 1973 and 1999, and about 29% between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Part of Shanklin Village is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. About 59% of households in the area around Shanklin Village live in purpose-built flats, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. For a flat, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
The wider area includes historic houses like Nonsuch Mansion, about 1.6 miles north-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. For families living near Harris Academy Sutton, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Living in a block of flats near Belmont station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

From workshop to your room
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Loading near a block of flats can take some planning, so details of bays, permits or a loading area help. Once inside, the sections are joined and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You get in touch and let us know about the room.
- At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.
- Your written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
- We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls and ceiling; a hand-painted finish is done on site.
- Before we leave, we go through the doors and drawers with you. New paint takes time to cure, so treat it gently at first.
Preparing the room
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
Ask for a quote
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
Advice
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Walls and floors in older homes are seldom straight or level. Standalone wardrobes may lean or leave uneven gaps against the wall. Ours are levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls. Big standalone units don’t always fit the lift or the turn on the stairs, whereas fitted furniture comes in sections made for the way in. It’s then put together in the room.
There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Questions we’re often asked
Do you cover homes near Belmont station?
Yes, homes across Sutton and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Will a conservation area stop me having fitted wardrobes fitted in Shanklin Village?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?
It is worked out with you when we measure, starting from the clothes you have. Some shelves can be adjustable so the layout can change.
How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?
We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. If you’re in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.
Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?
Floors in older houses are often out of level. We set fitted wardrobes level on a plinth or adjustable feet.
Materials and finishes
Hanging rails
We keep the top rail at a height you can reach. Higher space above can hold shelves for things you use less.
Plinths and scribe strips
Scribing means trimming edges on site to follow the walls and ceiling. This closes the gaps a straight wardrobe would leave in an older room.
