Pricing fitted wardrobes in Walthamstow Village

What you pay depends on:

  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • The overall size of the piece

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Helping us understand the room

You do not need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

About our fitted wardrobes in Walthamstow Village

In a period bedroom, the alcoves beside the chimney breast make natural wardrobe spaces. A pair of alcove wardrobes keeps the chimney breast as a feature, scribed to follow the uneven walls. We meet the picture rail and cornice neatly, or cut around them. Typical reasons to get in touch are no space in front for doors to swing and standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

A large share of the homes around Walthamstow Village were built before 1919, and in a Victorian or Edwardian bedroom, the chimney breast and its alcoves often shape the room. Fitted storage can sit in the alcoves or span the wall, chimney breast and all. Walls and floors in older houses are rarely true, so the pieces are scribed to the wall and levelled at the base.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

What happens on fitting day

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.

  1. You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
  2. At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
  3. We send a quote in writing with the layout, materials and finish.
  4. We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home.
  5. Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

I live in a flat in Walthamstow Village. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Fitted wardrobes are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Can you fit fitted wardrobes to the uneven walls of an older house in Walthamstow Village?

Yes, that’s normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

How do I get started?

Just get in touch through our contact form. It helps to send rough sizes and a few photos, and we’ll arrange a design visit, followed by a written quote.

Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?

Yes. Wardrobes on outside walls are designed with ventilation behind and inside. Any existing damp needs dealing with before fitting.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Walthamstow Village

About 50% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Walthamstow Village went up before 1919, and about 15% between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Walthamstow Village is partly covered by the St Mary's Church (Walthamstow Village) Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Waltham Forest sets its own rules. Depending on your street in Walthamstow Village, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. Tell us what the parking is like at the measuring visit.

If your home is one of the older houses near St. Mary's Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. If your children go to Walthamstow School for Girls or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

How it is made

Spray-painted finish

A sprayed coat covers edges, corners and panels evenly for a smooth finish. You choose the colour before we start.

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish suits wardrobes in a period room. You choose the colour, and touch-ups are straightforward.

The problems fitted wardrobes solve

Others simply want the room to feel calmer. A run of painted doors from wall to wall looks quieter than several separate pieces and keeps everything out of sight.

Fitted wardrobes can help with:

  • Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
  • A sloping ceiling that is hard to use
  • Mismatched bedroom furniture

The wider area includes historic houses such as Bruce Castle, about 2.9 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

What to check before you book

  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?

Flats, blocks and rented homes

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising at the measuring visit.
