Bromley Common Fitted Home Offices

In Bromley Common, we design fitted home offices around the room you actually have. Your home office is designed at a visit to your home and made at our workshop.

How we make fitted home offices for Bromley Common

An alcove beside a chimney breast can take a neat desk with shelves above. We scribe the desk and shelving to the alcove walls, which are rarely straight. The opposite alcove can carry shelves or a cupboard to match. It makes a working corner that suits the room, in Bromley Common or anywhere else. Most enquiries start with cables trailing across the desk and floor and working at the kitchen table; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Wherever your home in Bromley Common sits in London’s mix of housing, the desk, shelves and storage are designed as one piece. Cable routes are part of that, with any new sockets left to your electrician. Long shelves are sized so they do not sag under files and books.

We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Could you do it yourself?

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

How fitting works for fitted home offices

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls, scribed where walls bow and levelled where floors slope. Spray-painted pieces arrive finished; hand-painted ones can be finished on site.

  1. You get in touch and describe the space you want to work in.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan a desk and storage that follow the shape of the room.
  3. A quote in writing follows.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the office in your home, trimming the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
  6. Your spray-painted or hand-painted finish completes the office.

Ask for a quote

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Questions we are often asked

Can you make fitted home offices for a home in Bromley Common?

Yes, we work across Bromley, Bromley Common included, and across the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Bromley Common?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Is it possible to have a desk under the eaves?

Yes, in a loft that’s already converted. The desk is placed where there is headroom to sit and stand comfortably, with storage built into the lower parts of the slope. We do not carry out loft conversions.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

The furniture is built in sections. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.

Is it possible to have an office and a guest bed in one room?

It comes down to the size of the room. An office on one wall often leaves room for a bed. We will look at the options at the design visit.

Pricing fitted home offices in Bromley Common

What you pay depends on:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • How square the room is
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

Getting in touch

A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:

  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

To get a quote for fitted home offices in Bromley Common, drop us a line using the contact form. Let us know the room and the rough idea, with sizes if you have them. We will arrange a design visit, then send a written quote.

Is bespoke worth it?

Long, thin shelves can bow under books. Span, depth and load all matter. Shelves are made to suit the load, with thicker shelves or support where the span is long. Ready-made pieces come with a fixed inside layout, rather than where you need them. Fitted furniture is laid out inside around your things.

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

What you get with us

Before and after fitting day

These points come up often when people plan fitted home offices. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:

  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Think about where the sockets are now
  • Note how many files and books you need to store

If you’re having new sockets fitted, your electrician can do that around the furniture as planned. Show them the cable routes so everything lines up. Tidy cables keep the office looking calm.

Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If a door drops or a drawer catches, message us from the contact page and tell us.
