Bromley Common Fitted Wardrobes
We make fitted wardrobes for homes in Bromley Common, designed around the room you have. We design your fitted wardrobe at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
- An tricky slope in a loft bedroom
- Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall

The problems fitted wardrobes solve
Some bedrooms are hard to furnish. Slopes, chimney breasts, low windows and doors in awkward spots leave standard wardrobes with nowhere to go. Fitted wardrobes are shaped around them.
These come up often when people first get in touch:
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
- Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
- Wardrobes that are full to bursting
- Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
Living in a block of flats near Bickley station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- A quote in writing that sets out the job
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
Fitted wardrobes in Bromley Common: what you get
A fitted wardrobe is built into the room itself, running floor to ceiling and wall to wall where the space allows. There’s no dusty gap on top and no tricky space at the ends. For a bedroom in Bromley Common, the first step is a design visit to measure up and talk through the design. We make fitted wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about no space in front for doors to swing and dusty space on top of the wardrobe.
Across London, neighbouring streets can be decades apart in age, and the walls in a bedroom might be brick, blockwork, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Each wall is checked at the design visit before fixings are chosen. If the room has a chimney breast, the alcoves can take fitted storage; if not, a full wall often works best.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Materials and finishes
Spray-painted finish
Spraying in the workshop means the doors come to your home finished, in the colour agreed with you. Give the paint time to cure fully.
Moisture-resistant MDF
With no grain to show through, MDF gives a calm painted finish. The moisture-resistant grade is our choice for fitted work.
Practical tips
Getting the most from fitted wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Empty the area where we’ll be working
- Let us know about any damp you have seen on bedroom walls
- Work out the split between long and short hanging
- Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
Doors can settle a little once the wardrobes are filled. Hinges can typically be adjusted to line the doors up again, and sliding doors can be reset on their track.
Now and then, check that handles and hinges are tight and adjust any door that starts to catch.
Bromley Common homes and fitted wardrobes
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 28% of the housing in the streets around Bromley Common, with about 23% built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Bromley Common, Historic England’s list includes Oakley House (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east, and Turpington Farmhouse (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling may need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. All of London, Bromley included, is inside the ULEZ. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Bromley Common, as it does anywhere else in London. Access and parking are talked through during the design visit.
Close to Norman Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window. If your children go to Trinity Church of England Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.
Bromley Common is in the London Borough of Bromley, about 3 miles east of Orpington. Anywhere in Bromley Common, the process is the same: a design visit, a quote in writing, furniture built in our workshop and fitting in your home. Bromley Common is one of the places in Bromley where we make fitted wardrobes.
We cover every part of BR2 and BR1. Whether you live on a street such as Pope Road, Crown Lane and Church Lane or on one nearby, we can arrange a design visit for fitted wardrobes. If you are just outside Bromley Common, we also cover Southborough (1 mile north-east), Hayes (1 mile south-west), Locksbottom (1 mile south-east), Shortlands (2 miles north-west) and Keston (2 miles south). We also make fitted wardrobes in nearby places such as Orpington (3 miles east), Bromley (2 miles north-west), Beckenham (3 miles north-west), St Mary Cray (3 miles east), Chislehurst (2 miles north-east) and Penge (5 miles north-west).

What we don’t do
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
- Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
- The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations
If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.
What it’s made from
- Spray-painted finish
- Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
- Hand-painted finish
- Hinged or sliding doors
- Birch plywood
- Moisture-resistant MDF
Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Bromley Common
I live near Bickley station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Does a conservation area in or near Bromley Common affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?
Yes. Wardrobes on outside walls are designed with ventilation behind and inside, in moisture-resistant MDF. If there is damp on the wall already, it should be sorted first.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.
How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in Bromley Common?
It is easiest to fill in our short enquiry form and let us know about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a written quote.
Can you build wardrobes around a bed?
Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.
From workshop to your room
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it is going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand makes the day easier, including pictures on nearby walls. Floors and doorways are protected before anything comes in. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.
- You get in touch with some details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn.
- A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
- The wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
- Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.
Before we arrive
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
