Fitted home offices in Goddington, Bromley

Thinking about fitted home offices in Goddington? We start with a design visit and a written quote, before anything is made.

Fitted home offices in Goddington

How we make fitted home offices for Goddington

Where the window sits affects how comfortable the desk will be. A screen facing a window can be hard to read, and a window behind you can cause glare. We plan the desk position with the window in mind, often with the light to one side. We look at it early at the design visit in Goddington. People usually come to us about no way to put work away and no proper place to work from home; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Goddington, a dining room or spare bedroom is often the room that has to double as an office. A built-in desk with doors that close over it lets the room go back to its other job at the end of the day. We plan the cable routes around your sockets.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Materials and finishes

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting gives a slightly softer look than spraying. It can be applied on site, in a colour agreed with you. It can match the skirting and doors.

Birch plywood

Shelves full of books and files carry real weight. Birch plywood suits them, as it is strong and stiff. Where the span is long, we add thickness or support.

Questions we’re often asked

Is Goddington in the area you cover for fitted home offices?

Yes, we work across Bromley, Goddington included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Chelsfield station?

Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. Your lease is something we can’t advise on, so it’s worth checking before fitting day.

How long will the home office fitting take?

The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We make the desk and storage in our workshop, so the time at your home is spent fitting. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

Can a home office double as a guest room?

Often, yes. We plan the office so there’s still space for guests, or with doors that close over the desk. A fold-down wall bed can also be built into the design.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

A standalone desk can go with you when you move. A fitted office stays with the house, and it uses the space in a way a standalone desk can’t. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, which fitted furniture avoids. It can use the full height too.

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Caring for painted furniture

These points come up often when people plan fitted home offices. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:

  • List the equipment you use, from screens to printers
  • Look at the window and where the light falls
  • Consider doors to hide work at the end of the day
  • Note how many files and books you need to store

A hand-painted finish is easy to touch up if it gets marked. It is worth keeping a record of the paint colour. If anything is not right with the furniture, tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll talk it through.

Hot mugs can mark paint, so a coaster is a good habit. Keep liquids away from the edge. A desk mat under the keyboard and mouse saves wear on the surface.

From workshop to your room

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are normally simple, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. Home offices arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.

  1. To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the room and your desk set-up is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure and plan the desk, shelves and storage, and look at where the light falls.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the office.
  4. The office furniture is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with gaps for cables planned in.
  5. We fit it in your home, scribed and set level, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Fitted home offices in Goddington: local notes

Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 59% of the housing in the streets around Goddington, with about 18% built between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Goddington include Goddington House (Grade II), less than half a mile north. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Bromley is no exception. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking during the design visit.

For a flat near Chelsfield station, home offices are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. For an older house near Christ Church, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk. Close to Hewitt's Chalk Bank? A desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight.

What affects the cost of fitted home offices

Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:

  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • How big the furniture is
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit.

What to send when you get in touch

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. A written quote follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, use our contact form.
