Your questions about fitted home offices in Wennington

Is parking a problem for fitting in Wennington?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

Is Wennington in the area you cover for fitted home offices?

Yes. Wennington is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Havering and London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

Can I send pictures before the visit?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

It’s something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so it sits tight to the room.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

About our fitted home offices in Wennington

Spare rooms are a natural choice for an office, though many still need space for guests. The office can be planned to leave space for a bed or a sofa, or with doors that close over the desk when you finish work. It is worth talking through at the design visit in Wennington. We make home offices from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are paperwork and files with nowhere to go and no way to put work away.

A compact desk under the stairs or on a landing suits someone who works from home now and then. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Wennington, a landing or the space below the stairs could hold a compact desk. Cupboards with doors keep files and the printer out of sight. Any meters or fuse board stay easy to get to.

Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

What we do not do

Some parts of a job need another trade, like an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Installing IT equipment or broadband
  • Plastering and decorating around the office
  • Converting a loft to make room for an office

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

What it’s made from

  • Built-in desks
  • Cable routes
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Filing drawers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

From workshop to your room

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is usually more generous. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.

  1. You get in touch and describe the space you want to work in.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan a desk and storage that follow the shape of the room.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each piece is set level and scribed to the walls, so there are no gaps along the edges.
  6. The finish is either sprayed in our workshop or hand-painted once everything is in.

Preparing the room

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Getting a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Fitted home offices for homes in Wennington

About 47% of the homes in the area around Wennington went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 22% between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Wennington, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Mary and St Peter (Grade II*), less than half a mile west, and Lennard Arms Inn (Grade II), under half a mile east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Havering are set locally. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

Living in a block of flats near Rainham (Essex) station? Then the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. If you live near Wildspace Conservation Park, a desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day. The wider area includes historic houses like Rainham Hall, about 1.5 miles north-west. If your own home is a period one, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.

What it is made from

Shelves

Open shelves above a desk keep books in reach. Deeper shelves lower down can take a printer or files. We plan the depths during the design visit.

Spray-painted finish

For a crisp, even look, many people choose a spray-painted finish. We apply it in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.

Pricing fitted home offices in Wennington

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • How square the room is

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What to send when you contact us

A few details help us understand the job before we visit. It’s useful to include:

  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

To make a start, use our contact form and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and a written quote follows.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t typically do that in an older room.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
