Fitted home offices in Upminster Bridge

Questions from Upminster Bridge

Do you make fitted home offices for homes in Upminster Bridge?

Yes, Upminster Bridge is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Upminster Bridge?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

Does my lease affect fitted furniture?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. We cannot advise on leases, so please check yours.

What happens at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

About our fitted home offices in Upminster Bridge

A fitted home office gives your work a proper place in the house. We design and make built-in desks, shelving and storage for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and the space under the eaves, shaped by the way you work. In Upminster Bridge, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. Most enquiries start with cables trailing across the desk and floor and no proper place to work from home; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Detached and semi-detached houses can have more than one room that could be an office. Around Upminster Bridge, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so there may be a choice of rooms. Light, noise and where the broadband comes in all matter. The design visit is a good time to discuss the options.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

When is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t normally do that in an older room.

Where other trades come in

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Converting a loft to make room for an office
  • Setting up computers, screens or networks
  • Changes to the structure of the house

If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

How fitting works for fitted home offices

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know during the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You get in touch and describe the space you want to work in.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan a desk and storage that follow the shape of the room.
  3. A quote in writing follows.
  4. In our workshop the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. We fit the office in your home, trimming the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
  6. The finish is either sprayed in our workshop or hand-painted once everything is in.

Preparing the room

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Arranging a design visit

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To book a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Practical tips

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Tell us about every device that needs a home
  • Note the position of sockets in the room
  • Consider your chair when planning the desk
  • Think about matching the woodwork or the walls

Small marks on a hand-painted finish can be touched in. It is worth keeping a record of the paint colour. Should you have a question about the office, drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll help.

Keep the chair from knocking the desk edge. Ease the chair in rather than pushing it hard. Minor chips can be touched up with the matching colour.

How it’s made

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish can be done in your home after fitting. Small marks are simple to touch in later. That helps on a well-used desk.

Shelves

Shelves can be fixed or adjustable. Fixed shelves add stiffness to tall units, while adjustable ones let you change things later.
