Fitted home offices for your home in Hacton

From workshop to your room

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made at our workshop, a piece at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. It starts when you get in touch with some details about the space.
  2. We come to measure and work out where the desk, shelves and cable routes should go. New sockets are for your electrician, so it is useful to think about them early.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the office we have discussed, for you to read through.
  4. The desk, shelving and cupboards are made in our workshop.
  5. We bring it to your home, fit it and leave it ready to use.

Before fitting day

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Empty the space we will be working in

Fitted home offices in Hacton: what you get

The desk is the heart of a home office. We make it to a height and depth that suit you, your chair and your screen, with drawers or cupboards beneath where they’re useful. Shelving and cupboards can then be built around it. The design visit in Hacton is where these choices are made. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day and paperwork and files with nowhere to go.

Detached and semi-detached houses can have more than one room that could be an office. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up much of the housing around Hacton, and they can offer a choice of rooms. Light, noise and where the broadband comes in all matter. We can look at the options together during the design visit.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Is bespoke worth it?

Ready-made office furniture comes in set sizes for straight walls. In an awkward space, standard pieces leave gaps. A fitted home office is designed for the room and scribed to the walls. It’s a bigger investment, and the gain is a workspace that uses the room well. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Why choose us

  • Every quote follows a design visit

How it is made

Pull-out drawers

Drawer boxes are made from birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well. They’re built for papers, files and kit. The fronts are painted to match.

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting gives the desk and doors a very even surface. We apply it in our workshop, and the paint needs time to cure fully once fitted.

Caring for painted furniture

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Choose a calm colour for a working room
  • Check whether you’ll need new sockets
  • Decide how much should be open shelving and how much behind doors
  • Think about the space you need to push back

Wiping the desk and fronts with a soft, damp cloth is typically all they need. Avoid scourers and harsh cleaners. The front edge of the desk picks up marks first.

Use the cable routes so wires don’t rub the paint. Wires pulled across an edge can wear it. A little tidying now and then keeps the office calm.

Home working in Hacton: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Hacton were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 42%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 29%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how home offices are fixed and fitted. About 72% of households in the streets around Hacton live in detached or semi-detached houses, based on Census 2021. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Havering is no exception. If your road in Hacton falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Parking near your home is worth mentioning at the design visit.

Rainham Hall, about 2.1 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk. If you live in a period home close to St Matthews Church Hall, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. If you live in a flat close to Upminster station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

FAQs: fitted home offices in Hacton

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Hacton?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Can you make fitted home offices for a home in Hacton?

Yes. Hacton is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Havering and London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

It is made in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

What it costs

Several things affect the price:

  • The width and height of the space
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

What to send when you get in touch

A few details help us understand the job before we visit. It’s useful to include:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • How you want to use the space
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, then send a written quote. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.
