How we make fitted home offices for Romford
Each home office is made in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits desks and long shelves, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. It’s then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Romford. People usually come to us about a guest room that’s needed for work and shelves that sag under books and files, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
For occasional working, a small desk on a landing or under the stairs can be enough. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Romford, the hall or landing may have room for one. Cupboards with doors keep files and the printer out of sight. Meters and fuse boards stay reachable.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the home office designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Fitting day, step by step
When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop, a piece at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are usually simple, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. Home offices arrive in sections and are assembled in place.
- You get in touch and describe the space you want to work in.
- At the design visit we measure up and plan a desk and storage that follow the shape of the room.
- A quote in writing follows.
- Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day each piece is set level and scribed to the walls, so there are no gaps along the edges.
- Your spray-painted or hand-painted finish completes the office.
How to prepare
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Questions from Romford
Can you make fitted home offices for a home in Romford?
Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London, and Romford is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Romford?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Typically not. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character may need listed building consent.
How is the furniture painted?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch.
Can you add power points to the desk?
That is work for your electrician. We plan the furniture around them, with cable routes through the desk and units. Your electrician can then fit them as planned.
Bespoke fitted home offices or ready-made?
A fitted office can combine a desk, shelving and cupboards in one design. Ready-made pieces bought separately rarely line up. The result is a calmer, more ordered room. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Fitted furniture is designed around them.
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
Why choose us
- Every quote follows a design visit
- Saturday work by prior arrangement
- Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
- We work across all London boroughs
Romford homes and fitted home offices
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 32% of the housing in the area around Romford, with about 30% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The Romford Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Romford. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home in Romford is on or near a main road, tell us during the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
If you live near Lodge Farm Park, a desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. If you live in a period home close to Parish Church of St Edward the Confessor, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Parish Church of St Edward the Confessor, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
Romford is in the London Borough of Havering. From period terraces to newer flats in Romford, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. We cover places right across Havering, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.
We work across RM1, RM7, RM11 and RM2. If your home is on a street like High Street, Market Place and Market Link, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for fitted home offices. Romford sits close to the A1251. If your home is on one of them, tell us at the measuring visit, as some main roads have strict stopping rules. Other places close to Romford include Rush Green (1 mile south-west), Collier Row (1 mile north), Rise Park (1 mile north), Becontree Heath (1 mile south-west) and Chadwell Heath (2 miles west). Elsewhere in Havering, we also cover Hornchurch (2 miles south-east), Gallows Corner (2 miles north-east), Elm Park (2 miles south), Rainham (4 miles south), Upminster (3 miles east) and Ardleigh Green (2 miles east). As one of the bigger places in Havering, Romford is covered for fitted home offices and everything else we make.

What affects the price in Romford
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- How big the furniture is
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- How many doors and drawers there are
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
What to send when you contact us
These details help when you contact us:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
What we don’t do
We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:
- Setting up computers, screens or networks
- Building a loft conversion, which isn’t our work
- New sockets, data points or wiring, which are for your electrician
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.
Materials and parts
- Built-in desks
- Cable routes
- Spray-painted finish
- Filing drawers
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Birch plywood
- Hand-painted finish
Before and after fitting day
The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:
- Let us know about every device that needs a home
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Measure your chair and how much room you need behind it
- Look at the window and where the light falls
If you are having new sockets fitted, your electrician can do that around the furniture as planned. Show them the cable routes so everything lines up. Tidy cables keep the office looking calm.
Keep heavy loads on the shelves meant for them. Shelves are made for the load you planned. Spread heavy books and files evenly.
