Kevington Loft Storage

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make loft storage for homes in Kevington, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Unused space in a dormer
  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • Nowhere to store bags and boxes

Need loft storage in Kevington?

Flats, leases and landlords

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it during the design visit.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Loft storage for homes in Kevington

We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. The conversion itself is not our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. If you have a converted loft in Kevington, the design visit is the first step. Typical reasons to get in touch are space under the eaves going to waste and boxes piled on loft boards, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Many homes around Kevington date from the post-war decades, and London’s post-war housing includes flats in blocks as well as houses. Post-war houses typically have space under the stairs that can do more, while in a flat, the hallway and any recess are the places to look. Any meters, fuse boards or boilers stay reachable, with the clearances their makers set out.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Why bespoke in Kevington?

Loft walls are rarely straight, and floors are often out of level. Ready-made pieces show the gaps. Our storage is scribed to the room and set level, so the lines look right. Ready-made pieces each bring their own height and depth, and a room full of them can look cluttered, whereas a single fitted run gives one clean line. It can be painted to suit the room.

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit.

Why us?

  • Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight
  • 300+ projects completed
  • Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home

Practical tips

These points come up often when people plan loft storage. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:

  • Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom
  • Make room so the whole loft can be measured
  • Think about how you’ll reach into the eaves
  • Note any vents or insulation in the eaves

Small marks on a hand-painted finish can be touched in. It’s worth keeping a record of the paint colour. Should you have a question about the storage, use our contact form and we’ll help.

Keep the eaves ventilated and avoid pressing things against the back of the space. Insulation pressed flat doesn’t do its job. Damp in the eaves is worth raising with the people who did the conversion.

From workshop to your room

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed during the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Drilling into concrete is noisier than into brick or plaster, so if neighbours are close, a note before fitting day can help. Fitting day is planned around any building rules on noisy work. Dust is kept down and cleared as we go.

  1. You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
  3. Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
  4. In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Preparing the room

  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

Getting a quote

It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Advice

Questions from Kevington

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Kevington?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

Can you make loft storage for a home in Kevington?

Yes, Kevington is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Bromley and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

What happens at the design visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and discuss the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and a written quote follows.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it is useful to be around at the end.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

It’s something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so there are no gaps at the sides.

Making use of awkward spaces in Kevington

Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 43% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Kevington, with about 26% built between 1973 and 1999, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. The National Heritage List records 7 entries within half a mile of the centre of Kevington. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Bromley are set locally. If your street in Kevington is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension through the council may be needed. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

For a family home near Manor Oak Primary School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. If you live in a period home close to Unity Church, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

The problems loft storage solve

A loft room used as an office or guest room often needs storage too. Storage in the eaves leaves the main floor clear.

We are often asked to help with:

  • A boarded loft with no proper shelving
  • A dormer that isn’t being used
  • Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
  • Needing storage in a loft office

If you live in a flat close to St Mary Cray station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
