Questions we’re often asked
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Kevington?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.
I live near St Mary Cray station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
Can you fit sockets in the desk?
That is work for your electrician. The furniture is designed to suit, with routes for chargers and screens. Your electrician can then fit them as planned.
Fitted home offices for homes in Kevington
Not every home has a spare room, but a wide landing or a loft room can work. A desk under a sloping ceiling needs careful planning so you can sit and stand comfortably. On a landing, it has to leave room to walk by. At the design visit in Kevington, we’ll see what fits. If you are living with an awkward space with no furniture that fits and wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day, that is what home offices are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
A post-war through lounge often has a dining end that can take a desk, and a desk that closes away keeps work out of the evening. Around Kevington, many homes come from the post-war decades. Cable routes are planned to the sockets you have.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Why people ask for fitted home offices in Kevington
Some people want to separate work from home life. With doors over the desk, work can be put away at the end of the day. It makes the house feel like home again in the evening.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- No way to put work away
- A room with two jobs to do
- Flimsy shelves that won’t take the weight
- Paperwork and files with nowhere to go
Living in a block of flats near St Mary Cray station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
Before you choose who makes it
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
When you need someone else
We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:
- New sockets, data points or wiring, which are for your electrician
- Structural work, such as removing walls or chimney breasts
- Connecting printers and screens

Fitted home offices for homes in Kevington
In the neighbourhood around Kevington, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 43%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 26%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for home offices, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List records 7 entries within half a mile of the centre of Kevington. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. We can then plan where the van will stop.
Near listed buildings like Kevington Hall, about 0.5 miles west of the centre of Kevington, older homes may keep original joinery that home offices can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If your home is one of the older houses near Unity Church, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.

From workshop to your room
At the end, we tidy up. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Post-war homes often have concrete or block walls, so fixings are chosen for the wall on fitting day. We protect floors and doorways as the furniture comes in.
- You get in touch and describe the space you want to work in.

- A quote in writing follows.

Is bespoke worth it?
Long, thin shelves can bow under books. Span, depth and load all matter. We size the shelves for what they’ll carry, using birch plywood where strength is needed. Big ready-made pieces can be tricky to carry up communal stairs, whereas fitted furniture is made in sections sized for the way in. It is then assembled in the room.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that is part of the price. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit.

What affects the price in Kevington
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Parking near your home
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- The width and height of the space
Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.
Getting in touch
Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- What the furniture needs to hold
Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, drop us a line using the contact form. The written quote follows the visit.
