Loft storage in Plaistow, Bromley

Thinking about loft storage in Plaistow? We start with a design visit and a written quote.

  • Needing storage in a loft office
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished

Loft storage designed for your room

Do you need loft storage in Plaistow?

A new loft conversion often needs storage to finish it. The room is there, but the furniture to fit it isn’t. Storage made for the slopes completes it.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • Boxes and suitcases with no home
  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
  • Boxes piled on loft boards
  • Furniture that cannot get up to the loft

For families living near Burnt Ash Primary School, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?

About our loft storage in Plaistow

Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. We don’t carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. If you have a converted loft in Plaistow, the design visit is the first step. Most enquiries start with low eaves that nobody can use and needing storage in a loft office, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Around Plaistow, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Lids, doors and drawers are set level on site so they run true.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

What happens on fitting day

Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.

  1. You let us know about the loft room.
  2. We come to measure and talk through the design and finish.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The storage is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
  5. The storage is fitted and scribed to the slopes, and any hand painting is done on site.
  6. Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

Starting with a design visit

A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. To send them, message us from the contact page. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Advice

Your questions about loft storage in Plaistow

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Plaistow?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.

Can you make loft storage for a home in Plaistow?

Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London, and Plaistow is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

How long will the loft storage fitting take?

How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. The storage is built in our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We work tidily and keep the stairs and landing as clear as we can.

How is loft storage priced?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. It depends on how much storage you want, the shape of the room and the finish. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

Loft storage for homes in Plaistow

In the area around Plaistow, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 47%) and before 1919 (about 20%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Within a mile of the centre of Plaistow, 3 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Bromley are set locally. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.

If you live near Downham Fields, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. Living in a block of flats near Sundridge Park station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Honest limits

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Anything that needs Building Regulations sign-off
  • Any wiring, which needs an electrician
  • Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves

If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room. How it works.

Boards, parts and finishes

  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

A standalone wardrobe can go with you when you move. Fitted storage stays with the house, and it uses the slopes in a way a standalone piece can’t. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
