Northwood Loft Storage

Loft storage for your home in Northwood: eaves cupboards, drawers and wardrobes in converted lofts. Each piece is designed at a visit to your home, built in our workshop and fitted by us.

  • A dormer that is not being used
  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
  • Boxes and suitcases with no home

Need loft storage in Northwood?

Looking after your furniture

These points come up often when people plan loft storage. They help whatever the room:

  • Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom
  • Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
  • Think about how you will reach into the eaves
  • Check the route up to the loft

When we have finished fitting, the cupboards and drawers are ready. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. Keep tape and strong cleaners away from it while it settles.

Leave room for air to move behind the storage. Insulation pressed flat does not do its job. Damp in the eaves is worth raising with the people who did the conversion.

Loft storage for homes in Northwood

Loft rooms are often bedrooms, so storage for clothes matters. Wardrobes under the slope, drawers in the knee wall and shelves in the dormer can all work together. Planned together, they make the room feel ordered. We design them around what you need to store in Northwood. Most enquiries start with unused space in a dormer and a converted loft with no fitted furniture, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Much of the housing around Northwood is interwar, semi-detached or detached, and every piece is still scribed where it meets the wall. Lids, doors and drawers are set level on site so they run true.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Common questions about loft storage

Do you cover homes near Carpenders Park station?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Northwood?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?

Yes. A wardrobe made for the slope fits where a standard one cannot. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It’s scribed to the slope and walls.

What materials do you use for loft storage?

Our loft storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. Both are stable, which matters in a loft room. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Pricing loft storage in Northwood

The price for your room depends on:

  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • The width and height of the space
  • Parking and unloading on your street

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.

What we need to know

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

When is bespoke worth it?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Making use of tricky spaces in Northwood

Homes built between 1973 and 1999 make up about 37% of the housing in the area around Northwood, with about 25% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The centre of Northwood is within about a quarter of a mile of the Frithwood, Northwood Conservation Area. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 56% of households in the area around Northwood, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.

Living in a block of flats near Carpenders Park station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If you live near King George V Playing Fields, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. If your home is one of the older houses near Emmanuel Church, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

Flats, conversions and lettings

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.

How fitting day works

Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.

  1. You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
  2. We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The storage is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Preparing the room

  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

Starting with a design visit

It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, get in touch through our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.
