Fitted bedroom furniture in Northwood
About 37% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Northwood went up between 1973 and 1999, and about 25% between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The Frithwood, Northwood Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Northwood. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If you live on or close to a main road in Northwood, let us know at the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
If your home is one of the older houses near Emmanuel Church, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Close to King George V Playing Fields? Walk-in wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.
Northwood is about 3 miles south of Ruislip, within the London Borough of Hillingdon. Our work covers every London borough and the City of London, Northwood included. Our work takes in places right across Hillingdon.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Northwood
A walk-in wardrobe gives your clothes a room of their own. It can be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. Everything is made at our workshop and fitted to the room, so it follows the walls and sits level. If your home has a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom and a calmer, clearer bedroom, that’s what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, which leaves the side walls for storage and the bay for light. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Northwood, so that shape of room is worth knowing. Every wall is measured, as a room that looks square rarely is.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Fitting day, step by step
With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Interwar houses usually have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it is going, with floors protected throughout.
- You get in touch with some details about the room. A line on how you’ll use the room helps.
- The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside.
- A quote in writing is sent to you, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- Everything is made in our workshop.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted in your home. Each unit is set level and scribed to the walls.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
Ask for a quote
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Questions from Northwood
Do you cover homes near Carpenders Park station?
Yes, homes across Hillingdon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details about the room.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Northwood?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?
Yes, it helps avoid condensation and mould. We design the units to let air move and walls should be dry before we fit.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
The furniture is built in sections, sized for the route not just the room. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
Do you need walk-in wardrobes in Northwood?
Others want a dressing table built in alongside the storage. We can design a dressing table into the room, close to the clothes and shoes.
We are often asked to help with:
- Room for a growing wardrobe
- Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
- A use for a small spare room
- Proper shoe storage
Living in a block of flats near Carpenders Park station? Then the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- How parking will work on your street
Caring for painted furniture
The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
- Count your shoes before the design visit
- Talk to your electrician early about lighting
- Think about long versus double hanging
Let air move through the walk-in wardrobe, particularly if it’s on an external wall. Leave a little space behind hanging clothes to help air move.
If you want a partition to create the walk-in wardrobe, talk to a builder first. We make and fit the units inside.
