West Drayton Loft Storage

Thinking about loft storage in West Drayton? We start with a design visit and a written quote, before anything is made.

  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • Unused space in a dormer
  • A boarded loft with no proper shelving

Need loft storage in West Drayton?

Honest limits

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
  • Electrical work in the loft
  • Loft conversions, which we do not carry out

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

What it is made from

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood

How we make loft storage for West Drayton

We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. We don’t carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. In West Drayton, it all begins with a design visit. If your home has wasted space behind the knee walls and boxes piled on loft boards, eaves cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.

A good share of the homes around West Drayton were built between 1945 and the early 1970s. Post-war homes typically have squarer rooms and fewer nooks than period ones, which means eaves cupboards can add storage that was never built in. Walls may be concrete, block or brick, so fixings are chosen for the wall.

The furniture is built in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Fitting day, step by step

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fixing into concrete takes a heavy-duty drill and makes some noise, so if neighbours are close, a note before fitting day can help. Fitting day is planned around any building rules on noisy work. Dust is kept down and cleared as we go.

  1. It starts when you contact us about storage in your loft.
  2. We visit to measure and look at what’s behind the knee walls.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the fitting days agreed. You can ask us about any of it.
  4. Your storage is made at our workshop, shaped to the loft, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill.

Preparing the room

  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

Arranging a design visit

It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To send them over, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Advice

Before and after fitting day

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Here are our suggestions:

  • Note the things that need a home in the loft
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Tell us about parking at the measuring visit
  • Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both

Once the fitting is done, the storage is ready to use. New paintwork takes time to cure fully, so go easy on it to begin with. Keep tape and strong cleaners away from it while it settles.

Avoid overloading drawers so they keep running smoothly. A quick sort every so often helps. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.

Why people ask for loft storage in West Drayton

Boxes, suitcases and seasonal things need a home. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. The room stays calm and clear.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • Furniture that can’t get up to the loft
  • A dormer that is not being used
  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope

For a flat near West Drayton station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight

How it is made

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting suits angled panels and plain fronts alike. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. The colour is your choice.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting can be done on site once the storage is in. It is easy to touch up if it gets marked. That suits a room in daily use.

Fitted storage in West Drayton

In the area around West Drayton, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 33%) and the years since 2000 (about 25%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Part of West Drayton is in the West Drayton Green Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Hillingdon included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in West Drayton. Access and parking are talked through at the design visit.

Near listed buildings like Church of St Martin, less than half a mile north-west of the centre of West Drayton, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. If you live near Lake Farm Country Park, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

FAQs: loft storage in West Drayton

Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in West Drayton?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Do you cover homes near West Drayton station?

Yes, homes across Hillingdon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room.

Does eaves storage affect the insulation?

Not when it’s planned well. We look behind the knee wall at the design visit and plan the storage so air can still move. Insulation and ventilation work itself isn’t ours.

How much does loft storage cost?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

That is normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.
