Hand-painted finish

Hand painting can be done on site once the storage is in. It is easy to touch up if it gets marked. That helps in a well-used bedroom.

Birch plywood

Knee-wall drawers often carry a real load. Birch plywood suits them, as it’s strong and holds screws well. It works well for longer shelves too.

About our loft storage in Hillingdon

The space behind the knee wall typically has insulation and ventilation to think about. Storage shouldn’t block the ventilation or squash the insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it’s worth asking whoever converted the loft. When we visit in Hillingdon, we’ll see what’s there. We make eaves cupboards from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are needing storage in a loft office and standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Hillingdon, many have had the loft converted, leaving low eaves and sloping ceilings. Those spaces, along with bays and hallways, are where fitted storage can add the most. We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Making use of tricky spaces in Hillingdon

About 50% of the homes in the streets around Hillingdon went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 25% between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List records 8 entries within half a mile of the centre of Hillingdon. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. About 50% of homes in the neighbourhood around Hillingdon date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Many interwar houses have had their lofts converted, leaving sloping ceilings and eaves to use.

If you live in a period home close to Church of St John, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. For a flat near West Drayton station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. Close to Norman Leddy Memorial Gardens? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

What affects the price in Hillingdon

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:

  • Parking near your home
  • How square the room is
  • How big the furniture is
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted

We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

What to send when you get in touch

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

From workshop to your room

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Interwar houses typically have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, though we still measure the route in not just the room. Eaves cupboards arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.

  1. First you tell us about the loft room and what you’d like to store there, and how you get up to it.
  2. We visit to measure the eaves and slopes and discuss the design.
  3. A written quote follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
  4. We make every part in our workshop, cut to the angle of the slope. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home, scribed to the slopes and the walls.

Before fitting day

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Ask for a quote

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Advice

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Ready-made wardrobes and cupboards are built for standard rooms. Under a slope, it leaves large gaps and wasted space. Storage made for the loft follows its shape. It costs more than off-the-shelf furniture, and what you gain is the space a standard piece cannot reach. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Flats, leases and landlords

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall.
