Common questions about loft storage

Do you cover homes near Waddon station?

Yes. We cover all of Sutton and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room.

Is Beddington in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes. Beddington is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Sutton and London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings can need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so check with the council first.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Does eaves storage affect the insulation?

It shouldn’t, if it’s designed properly. We design eaves storage so it doesn’t block ventilation or squash insulation. If you have concerns about what’s already behind the eaves, it’s worth asking whoever converted the loft.

Loft storage in Beddington: what you get

Loft stairs are often narrow and steep, with tight turns. At the design visit, we measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft, so the sections we make in our workshop can be carried up. It is part of the job for any loft room in Beddington. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are an empty dormer that could hold shelves and a boarded loft with no proper shelving.

Around Beddington, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the bay window at the front, the space under the stairs and the box room are the usual places to gain storage. Any meters or fuse board under the stairs stay accessible, and the storage is planned around them.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

How fitting day works

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the loft and the stairs up to it.
  2. At the design visit we plan the storage and measure the stairs, landings and loft doorway.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. We build the storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to get up to the loft.
  5. The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.

Advice

When you need someone else

Before you plan the job, it is useful to know what we don’t do:

  • Electrical work in the loft
  • Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work
  • Any work on the structure of the house

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

What goes into it

  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Sloped wardrobe tops

Why bespoke in Beddington?

For simple storage in a boarded loft, ready-made shelving can do the job. A fitted design earns its place in a loft room you live in. We will give you an honest view at the measuring visit. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

What you get with us

  • Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
  • 300+ projects completed
  • Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Scribed to uneven walls

How we price loft storage

There’s no set price, because there is no set room. The things that affect it are:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Parking near your home

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It helps to talk about parking during the design visit, so it can be planned.

Getting in touch

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • Where you live, with the postcode

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Beddington homes and loft storage

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 52% of the housing in the area around Beddington, with about 22% built between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. There are 18 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Beddington. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. About 51% of households in the neighbourhood around Beddington live in detached or semi-detached houses, the 2021 Census shows. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.

Near listed buildings like Beddington Place (great Hall Only), less than half a mile west of the centre of Beddington, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live near Waddon Ponds, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Beddington is about 3 miles west of Sutton, part of the London Borough of Sutton. From period terraces to newer flats in Beddington, we measure the room as it is and design around it. Beddington is one of the places in Sutton where we make loft storage.

Every address in CR0, SM6 and CR9 is covered for loft storage. You’ll find streets here such as Guy Road, Mill Lane and Church Lane, and homes on each of them are within our area for loft storage. We also cover the places around Beddington: Bandonhill (1 mile south), Wallington (1 mile south-west), Waddon (1 mile south-east), Old Town (1 mile east) and Roundshaw (1 mile south). Other parts of Sutton we cover include Sutton (3 miles west), Carshalton (2 miles west), North Cheam (4 miles west), Benhilton (3 miles west), Sutton Common (3 miles west) and Rosehill (2 miles west).

Landmarks near Beddington

Our area takes in the homes around Wallington County Grammar School, The Archbishop Lanfranc School and The Plough pub. Other landmarks nearby include Croydon University Hospital (1.6 miles north-east) and Croydon Airport Visitor Centre (1.2 miles south-east). Not far away are Duppas Hill and Wilderness Island.

What prompts loft storage in Beddington

A dormer can feel like wasted space. Built-in furniture in a dormer puts it to work. It adds storage without crowding the room.

A few of the things people ask us to solve include:

  • A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
  • Low eaves that nobody can use
  • A dormer that isn’t being used
  • A new loft conversion that needs storage

If you live in a period home close to Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even.

What to check before you book

  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
