Loft Storage in Willesden

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make loft storage for homes in Willesden, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • A new loft conversion that needs storage
  • A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
  • Standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs

Loft storage designed for your room

What it is made from

Plinths and scribe strips

Scribe strips are trimmed to follow the wall and the slope. They help the storage look as though it was always there. The plinth does the same job at the floor.

Birch plywood

We use birch plywood where strength matters. It suits carcasses, drawer boxes and shelves. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.

Loft storage for homes in Willesden

Getting furniture up to a loft room is part of the planning. At the design visit, we measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft, so every section made in our workshop fits up the stairs. It’s part of the job for any loft room in Willesden. We make eaves cupboards from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom and wasted space behind the knee walls.

A Victorian or Edwardian terrace usually has a long, narrow hall leading to the stairs. Around Willesden, a large share of homes date from before 1919, so depth matters as much as width wherever storage goes. Even shallow storage can hold a lot without narrowing the way through.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Your questions about loft storage in Willesden

Can you make loft storage for a home in Willesden?

Yes. Willesden is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Brent and London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Willesden?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

What do eaves cupboards cost?

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Drawers in the knee wall normally involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. We set it all out in a quote in writing.

My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.

How we price loft storage

The price for your room depends on:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The width and height of the space
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension

Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, written once we have measured up.

Before the design visit

To give us a picture of the room, it’s useful to include:

  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • How you want to use the space
  • Any ideas or images you have saved

You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, tell us about the room on our contact form. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Where other trades come in

We are carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Loft conversions, which we don’t carry out
  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can drop us a line using the contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Materials and parts

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Birch plywood
  • Sloped wardrobe tops

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

Storage in Willesden homes: local notes

In the neighbourhood around Willesden, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 60%) and the years since 2000 (about 15%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Willesden, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Andrew (Grade II*), less than half a mile south-east, and St Andrew's Vicarage (Grade II), under half a mile south-east. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. About 40% of households in the area around Willesden live in purpose-built flats, according to Census 2021. For a flat, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

For a flat near Kensal Rise station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. If you live near Roundwood Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. The wider area includes historic houses like Fenton House, about 2.5 miles east. If your own home is a period one, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

Willesden is part of the London Borough of Brent, about 2 miles south-east of Kilburn. We work across all London boroughs and the City of London, and Willesden is part of that. We cover places right across Brent, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.

We work across the NW10 and NW2 postcode area. You will find streets here like Tudor Mews, Chaplin Road and Belton Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for loft storage. Willesden is near the B453; on busy main roads, unloading eaves cupboards takes a little planning. Neighbouring places we cover for loft storage include Willesden Green (1 mile south), Neasden (1 mile north-west), Church End (1 mile west), Cricklewood (1 mile north-east) and Harlesden (1 mile south-west). Other parts of Brent we cover include Kilburn (2 miles south-east), Wembley (3 miles west), Queen's Park (2 miles south-east), Kenton (4 miles north-west), Alperton (3 miles west) and North Wembley (3 miles west).

How fitting day works

Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that aren’t straight, so each piece is trimmed and adjusted on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so tell us about permits and bays at the measuring visit.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the loft room, whether it is a converted room or a boarded space.
  2. At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. Your storage is made in our workshop, shaped to the loft.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill.

Before fitting day

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
