Bespoke kitchens in Willesden, Brent

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Willesden starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • A central island in a larger kitchen
  • Cabinets for a narrow kitchen
  • Extra cupboard space

How we make bespoke kitchens for Willesden

We make the cabinets; the worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, so everything fits as it should. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are tall larder storage and cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls.

Narrow hallways in Victorian and Edwardian terraces set limits on how long a cabinet or panel can be. A large share of the homes around Willesden date from before 1919, so we measure the route to the kitchen not just the room. Long runs are made in sections and joined on site, with the joins placed where they won’t show.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

What happens on fitting day

Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturday fitting can be arranged.

  1. We start with how you use the kitchen and what isn’t working. It helps to know the worktop, sink and appliances you have in mind.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and talk through the layout, storage and finish.
  3. A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The units are made and finished in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician handle the plumbing, gas and electrics. We don’t arrange those trades, so it helps to book them early.

Before fitting day

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

How to get a quote

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?

Ready-made kitchens are widely available and often cheaper, and in a square modern room they can work well. Where walls lean and floors slope, they can be hard to fit neatly. A bespoke kitchen costs more but is made for the room. Ready-made units stop well short of a tall period ceiling, wasting space that could hold things you rarely use. Fitted furniture can go all the way up.

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

The problems bespoke kitchens solve

People also want a kitchen that is built to last and can be repainted, which suits a long-term home. Hand painting is simple to touch in or refresh later on.

Here’s what bespoke kitchens can help with:

  • A kitchen that fits an uneven room
  • A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
  • A pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers
  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose

If you live in a flat close to Kensal Rise station, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • A written quote that sets out the job

Made-to-measure kitchens in Willesden

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Willesden were built before 1919 (about 60%) and since 2000 (about 15%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Willesden is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. About 60% of homes in the neighbourhood around Willesden were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Kitchens in houses of that age often sit in a narrow back addition, with walls and floors that aren’t true, so cabinets are scribed and levelled on site.

If your children go to St Andrew and St Francis CofE Primary School or a school nearby, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. The wider area includes historic houses such as Fenton House, about 2.5 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Questions from Willesden

Is Willesden in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes. Willesden is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Brent and London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Willesden?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

We plan the route in at the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

How much time does fitting need?

It depends on the kitchen. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.

Caring for painted furniture

Looking after painted furniture is simple. These habits help most:

  • Choose your appliances before the design is final
  • Deal with damp walls first
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Measure the route into the kitchen

The appliances you have chosen come with their own care instructions, and the worktop you chose will have its own care advice too.

Choose your appliances before the design is finalised. Their sizes shape the cabinets, so late changes can be awkward.
