Loft storage for your home in Neasden
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.
About our loft storage in Neasden
The low space behind a knee wall is often the most useful in the room. Eaves cupboards and pull-out drawers built into the knee wall put it to work. Pull-out drawers mean you do not have to crawl in. We measure and plan for the space you have in Neasden. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about furniture that can’t get up to the loft and unused space in a dormer.
An interwar house typically has a proper landing, sometimes with a recess or an airing cupboard, which can hold fitted storage for linen and spare bedding. Around Neasden, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, the landing is worth a look as well as the hall. Any boiler or hot water cylinder keeps the access and ventilation its maker asks for.
Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Neasden homes and loft storage
In the streets around Neasden, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 40%) and before 1919 (about 33%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Part of Neasden is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. More than a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Neasden (about 40%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Loft conversions are common in houses of that age, and the eaves can take fitted storage; we build the storage once the loft is converted or boarded.
For an older house near St Catherine's Church Neasden with St Paul, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. For families living near Northview Junior and Infant School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.
Neasden is within the London Borough of Brent, about 2 miles south-east of Kilburn. Our work covers every London borough and the City of London, Neasden included. We list Neasden among 29 places we cover in Brent.

Materials and finishes
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. It suits carcasses, drawer boxes and shelves. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF cuts cleanly, which suits the angled panels under a sloping ceiling. The grade we use is moisture-resistant and paints well. Most of what you see is MDF.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases.
More for homes in Neasden
Do you need loft storage in Neasden?
Standard wardrobes don’t fit under a sloping ceiling. A wardrobe made for the slope uses the full height. It’s a common need in a loft bedroom.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:
- A dormer that isn’t being used
- Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs
- Boxes piled on loft boards
- A loft room with too many jobs
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Mary, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

FAQs: loft storage in Neasden
I live in a flat in Neasden. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Eaves cupboards are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Brent Cross West station?
Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not typically. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
Do you do the loft conversion too?
No. Our work is storage in loft rooms that are already converted, or in boarded lofts. A conversion is building work, and Building Regulations apply. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us.
Who chooses the colour?
The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
How fitting day works
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed at the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.
- First you tell us about the loft room and what you’d like to store there, and how you get up to it.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls, slopes and stairs and plan the storage with you, including the headroom under the slope.
- We send a quote in writing setting out the design, materials and finish.
- Your storage is made at our workshop and painted to your chosen colour. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted in the loft and checked, door by door, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
Ask for a quote
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.
