Our fitted wardrobes across CR3
Hanging heights are planned around your clothes, not a catalogue. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while shirts, jackets and folded trousers suit two rails, one above the other. We also think about who uses it, keeping rails at a height they can reach. Typical reasons to get in touch are damp or musty clothes against an external wall and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made in our workshop come in next. The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
- You send us a few details about the room and the storage you need.
- At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you.
- You receive a written quote setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish, so you can see what’s included.
- We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.
What goes into your quote
There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
Why work with us
- More than 300 projects completed
- Edges scribed to follow your walls
- Saturday work by prior arrangement
- Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
How to get a quote
Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To get started, get in touch through our contact form and tell us about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Nearby you will also find Purley War Memorial Hospital (2 miles north-east). Green spaces nearby include Foxley Wood.
Fitted wardrobes across CR3: local notes
Many older bedrooms across CR3 keep a chimney breast with an alcove on each side. In rooms without one, a full wall of storage often works best. Either way, each piece is fitted to the walls and floor as they are.
The biggest shares of homes in the CR3 postcode district were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 38%) and since 2000 (about 22%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. More than a third of the homes in the CR3 postcode district (about 38%) date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 64% of households in the CR3 postcode district, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. A house like that normally has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.
We make fitted furniture for every kind of home in CR3, from Victorian terraces to new-build flats. Wherever you live, it starts with a visit and a quote.
Coulsdon: If you live in a flat close to Coulsdon South station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If you live in a period home close to St Andrew's Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.
Looking after your furniture
People planning fitted wardrobes often ask about these. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:
- Work out the split between long and short hanging
- Tell us which walls face outside
- Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
- Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat
Painted doors feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. At first, handle the doors with care and don’t scrub the surfaces.
Don’t dry washing inside a wardrobe or in the bedroom with the doors shut because damp air ends up in the wardrobes. Opening a window now and then helps.
Could you do it yourself?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
The problems fitted wardrobes solve
Some bedrooms are hard to furnish. Slopes, chimney breasts, low windows and doors in tricky spots leave standard wardrobes with nowhere to go. Fitted wardrobes are shaped around them.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
- A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
- Wardrobes that are full to bursting
Flats, conversions and lettings
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it at the design visit.
What affects the cost of fitted wardrobes
The price for your room depends on:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- The internal fittings
- How square the room is
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.
Getting in touch
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. It’s useful to include:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.
FAQs: fitted wardrobes in CR3
What finishes do you offer?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Will fitted wardrobes get up the stairs to my flat?
Each wardrobe is built in sections that suit the stairs, landings and lift, and the wardrobe is put together in the room. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
What materials do you use?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF is stable and takes paint well, while birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, and the quote says which is used where.
Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?
It is common, and it’s allowed for. The wardrobe is set level with a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls so the doors close neatly.
