About our TV and media units in Coulsdon

TV units are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. The finish is spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in a colour agreed with you. We work across London, including Coulsdon. If you’re living with equipment with nowhere proper to go and a big screen that dominates the wall, TV and media units made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

Plenty of semis and interwar houses have been extended at the back or had the back rooms knocked through, which matters around Coulsdon, where homes like these are a big part of the housing. In a long knocked-through room, TV and media units can run the full length of one wall, or mark out the sitting end from the dining end. An extension’s plasterboard walls need different fixings from the original brick or block.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the TV unit we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Flats, leases and landlords

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

What affects the cost of TV and media units

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Spray painting or hand painting

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth

You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Fitting day, step by step

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
  2. We visit to measure and talk through the design and how the unit should look in the room.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the finish set out.
  4. The unit is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which takes paint well, and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied once it is in and is easy to touch up later. Go gently with new paintwork while it cures.

FAQs: TV and media units in Coulsdon

I live near Coulsdon South station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room.

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Coulsdon?

Yes, Coulsdon is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Croydon and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.

Can a built-in unit hide all the wires?

We design the unit so cables run out of sight. Access panels make future changes easy without taking the unit apart. If the TV is wall-mounted, we plan a route behind the screen.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

What happens when you come to measure?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We will also ask about access and parking, and a written quote follows.

Coulsdon homes and TV and media units

In the streets around Coulsdon, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 38%) and the years since 2000 (about 25%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Coulsdon, Historic England’s list includes Coulsdon Methodist Church (Grade II), about 0.6 miles north. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Croydon is no exception. If your street in Coulsdon is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay through the council may be needed. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

For a flat near Coulsdon South station, TV and media units are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If you live near Dollypers Hill, TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear. How it’s made

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF has no grain to show through, so a painted TV unit looks calm and even. The moisture-resistant grade is our choice.
