About fitted wardrobes in KT9
You can choose hinged or sliding doors. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, though they need room in front to open. Sliding doors save that space in a narrow room, but only part of the inside is open at any one time. We weigh them up with you during the design visit. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are empty alcoves in the bedroom and several odd pieces where one run of storage would do.
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections built in our workshop come in next. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- You get in touch and tell us about the room.
- At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.
- We send a quote in writing.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
- The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
- At the end we check each door and drawer with you; fresh paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
How our quotes work
There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Why work with us
- A design visit, then a quote in writing
- Saturday work by arrangement
- Work across the whole of London
- Scribed to uneven walls
Getting a quote
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, message us from the contact page.

Homes across KT9 and their bedrooms
In KT9, a spare room often doubles as a study or a guest room. The design can help one room work two ways.
In the KT9 postcode district, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 40%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 37%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. About 40% of homes in KT9 date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. Around a third of the homes in the KT9 postcode district (about 37%) were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Post-war bedrooms are normally simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, fixed to suit the wall.
KT9 is part of the area we cover, which takes in all 32 boroughs and the City. If you are unsure about access or parking, mention it when you contact us.
Chessington: Close to Horton Country Park? Keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. The wider area includes historic houses like Fitznells Manor, about 2.2 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Where other trades come in
Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we don’t do:
- Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
- Decorating or plastering the room
- Treating damp or mould on the walls
How we price fitted wardrobes
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Parking near your home
- How square the room is
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose.
Before the design visit
A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- How you want to use the space
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. To send them, message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.
Caring for painted furniture
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:
- Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
- Look at how many long coats and dresses you have
- Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
- Think about whether hinged doors will clear the bed
If you have sliding doors, keep the bottom track clear of dust and fluff to keep them running smoothly. Do not let shoes or bags sit in the track.
Make sure vents at the top or bottom of the wardrobe are not blocked. Look out for a musty smell or spots on clothes.
Do you need fitted wardrobes?
A finished loft conversion often leaves a new bedroom with sloping walls and no storage. Wardrobes built under the slope use space that would otherwise sit empty, leaving the floor open.
Some of the things we are asked to solve are these:
- Wasted space beside the chimney breast
- Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
- Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
- Not enough hanging space
What it is made from
Hanging rails
Rails are placed so the top one is within easy reach without a step. Higher space above can hold shelves for things you use less.
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers can be hidden behind doors or shown as part of the front. Internal drawers keep a clean run of doors.
Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?
We allow for it from the start. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls so the doors close neatly.
How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?
It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish, along with access and parking. The price comes in a quote in writing after the design visit.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
How long does it take to fit wardrobes?
The fitting depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The making happens in our workshop before we come to fit them.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. We agree the colour with you.
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you get in touch through our contact form.
