Fitted wardrobes across TN14: what to expect

Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with tall cupboards either side and storage bridging over the headboard. Others work around a window, with a dressing table or seat in between. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. Most enquiries start with no space in front for doors to swing and condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it is going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.

  1. You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
  2. At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
  3. You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish.
  4. The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors.

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It is useful to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan for it.

Fitted wardrobes for homes across TN14

Homes across TN14, Pratt's Bottom among them, often have one bedroom that has to do two jobs. Fitted wardrobes can be planned so the room switches between them.

The biggest shares of homes in TN14 were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 45%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 22%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. More than a third of the homes in TN14 (about 45%) were built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Bedrooms from that era tend to be regular, so fitted furniture can run wall to wall, fixed to suit the wall. About 76% of households in the TN14 postcode district live in detached or semi-detached houses, based on Census 2021. A house like that typically has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

We cover the whole of London, so homes in TN14 are well within our area. Tell us about access and parking when you first get in touch.

Pratt's Bottom: If your children go to Pratts Bottom Primary School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Close to Hewitt's Chalk Bank? Fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

The problems fitted wardrobes solve

Moving home often prompts it. Wardrobes from an old home rarely suit a new room, or may not make it up the stairs. Fitted wardrobes are designed for the room you have now.

Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:

  • Mismatched bedroom furniture
  • Clothes with nowhere proper to go
  • Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall

Could you do it yourself?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is easy to buy.

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

Where other trades come in

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
  • Building work to create a loft room
  • Redecorating around the wardrobes

Pricing fitted wardrobes in TN14

What you pay depends on:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The internal fittings
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Where you live, with the postcode

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, particularly with rough sizes. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Questions we are often asked

What materials do you use?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, depending on the part and the design. Your quote sets out the materials.

Is it possible to build wardrobes into a loft room with a slope?

Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, keeping hanging space at the tall end and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns tricky space into storage.

Is it possible to have storage over the bed?

Yes. Storage around a bed makes good use of a wall that is often wasted. We measure the bed and the room during the design visit.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you.

Will you paint the walls around the furniture?

No. Plastering and decorating aren’t part of our work. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.

Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?

Both work well, depending on the space. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front; sliding doors suit narrow rooms, though only part of the inside is open at once. We’ll help you weigh them up when we visit.
