Fitted cupboards for your home in Pratt's Bottom
Fitted cupboards in Pratt's Bottom: what you get
Gas meters, electricity meters and fuse boards tend to be where you’d least like them, under the stairs, in a hallway or beside the front door. A fitted cupboard can hide them neatly, while keeping them easy to reach. Meter readers and engineers need to get to them, so the doors or panels are planned with that in mind. We make fitted cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are cupboards for a utility or boot room and a hallway cupboard for coats and shoes.
Around Pratt's Bottom, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. In a typical 1930s house, storage tends to hide in the bay, under the stairs and in the box room. Any meters or fuse boards that need to stay reachable are designed around.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

How fitting day works
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.
- You get in touch and describe the space.
- We visit to measure the space and the route in from the street, including the stairs and doorways.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we build the cupboards in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The sections are carried in, joined and set level. The finish is sprayed before fitting or painted by hand on site.
How to prepare
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Tell us about parking near your home

Pratt's Bottom homes and fitted cupboards
In the area around Pratt's Bottom, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 45%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 22%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted cupboards are fixed and fitted. There is a conservation area within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Pratt's Bottom, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. More than a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Pratt's Bottom (about 45%) were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Homes from that era tend to have little built-in storage, so fitted cupboards make a real difference, fixed to suit concrete, block or brick.
The wider area includes historic houses like Down House, about 2.7 miles west. If your own home is a period one, fitted cupboards can fill recesses that are rarely a standard size. Close to Hewitt's Chalk Bank? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and fitted cupboards can give those things a place. Living in a block of flats near Knockholt station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
If you are likely to move soon and want to take the furniture with you, standalone cupboards may suit you better. A fitted cupboard is part of the room and is designed for this home. It is worth thinking about how long you plan to stay. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, which shows up against standard furniture. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.
We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing. To start, message us from the contact page.

Caring for painted furniture
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. A few pointers help:
- Deal with any damp walls first
- Mention any boiler, meter or fuse board early
- Don’t store things against the boiler
- Make a note of what needs a home
Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and small marks can often be cleaned off with a soft cloth. It is worth keeping a record of the colour.
At the design visit, let us know how parking and access work. Much of London has controlled parking and some blocks need lifts or deliveries booked ahead.
FAQs: fitted cupboards in Pratt's Bottom
Is Pratt's Bottom in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?
Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London, and Pratt's Bottom is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Do you cover homes near Knockholt station?
Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details about the room.
How long will the cupboards take to fit?
How long the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.
Who chooses the colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.
Does my lease affect fitted furniture?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease, so it is worth checking before fitting day.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it during the design visit.
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls during the design visit.
