TV and media units in Harrow
Speakers need space to be heard properly. A soundbar can sit on a shelf below the screen. Speakers work best in the open rather than behind closed doors. We make TV and media units from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a screen at the wrong height and somewhere to keep games tidy.
With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Harrow, many living rooms have been opened up to the dining room behind. That leaves a long room with a chimney breast on one side, which suits TV and media units along that wall. At the design visit we plan any cable routes and ventilation the room needs.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

How fitting works for TV and media units
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.
- You contact us with a short note about the room and the unit you have in mind, including the size of the screen.
- We visit to measure the wall and talk through the design. New sockets or wiring are for your electrician, so it helps to have them in mind early.
- Your quote follows, with the design, materials and finish set out, ready for you to check.
- Each section is built in our workshop to the measurements we took, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit it in your home, with the cable routes ready to use. We check the doors and shelves with you before we leave.
Before fitting day
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
Starting with a design visit
To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form and let us know which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.

Common questions about TV and media units
Can you make TV and media units for a home in Harrow?
Yes, Harrow is within the area we cover, which takes in all of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Does a conservation area in or near Harrow affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps, which helps avoid condensation and mould. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
How long will the fitting take?
It depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The unit is made at our workshop first, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.
How do I get a quote?
Simply send us a few details through our contact form. Rough measurements and a few photos help, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Will the cables be hidden?
Cable routes are built into the design. Where cables reach the wall depends on the sockets.
How it is made
Spray-painted finish
Spraying coats edges and corners evenly. The colour is agreed before we start.
Plinths and scribe strips
Scribing trims the edges on site to follow the wall, so there’s no gap.
Bespoke TV and media units or ready-made?
Not every bought cabinet allows enough air for warm equipment. We plan ventilation for boxes, consoles and amplifiers, with open backs, gaps or vented doors. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Fitted furniture is designed around them.
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

What else we make in Harrow
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the measuring visit.
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so each section is sized to get through.
Living-room carpentry in Harrow: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Harrow were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 33%) and before 1919 (about 27%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Harrow, Historic England’s list includes Parish Church of St Mary (Grade I), about 0.6 miles east, and The Old Schools (Grade I), about 0.6 miles east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, may need listed building consent from the council. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your home in Harrow is on or near a main road, tell us during the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
Headstone Manor, about 1.4 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. If you live near Northwick Park, a room that looks out on trees deserves a design that leaves the window alone. Living in a block of flats near Harrow-on-the-Hill station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.
