TV and media units in Motspur Park, Kingston upon Thames

In Motspur Park, we design TV and media units around the room you actually have. We design your TV unit at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A screen at the wrong height
  • Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
  • Empty alcoves beside the TV

Need TV and media units in Motspur Park?

From workshop to your room

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.

  1. To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the TV wall and everything that plugs into it is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure up, note where the sockets are and plan how the cables will run. If you need new sockets, your electrician should do that before fitting.
  3. A written quote follows for the unit.
  4. The unit is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with cable openings and vents cut in.
  5. The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish and the routes left clear.

Preparing the room

TV and media units in Motspur Park: what you get

A built-in TV unit gives the screen, the boxes, the speakers and the cables one planned home. The wall is planned as a whole, rather than a stand with wires trailing behind it. For a living room in Motspur Park, the first step is a design visit to measure up and look at your equipment. We make TV and media units from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room and nowhere good for speakers.

Around Motspur Park, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the living room may be a good size but with fewer recesses than a Victorian house. That leaves room for TV and media units in the alcoves, along a full wall or around the chimney breast, depending on how you use the room. Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood keep the pieces stable, and the paint finish is agreed with you.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

How it’s made

Doors and drawer fronts

Doors can hide boxes and clutter and are planned with ventilation where needed.

Birch plywood

We often use birch plywood for carcasses and drawers. The edge can be painted or left as a detail.

What affects the cost of TV and media units

Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:

  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Before the design visit

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • How you want to use the space
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

To get a quote, get in touch through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.

TV and media units in Motspur Park: local notes

Homes built before 1919 make up about 34% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Motspur Park, with about 31% built between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 7 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Motspur Park. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Around a third of the homes in the area around Motspur Park (about 31%) date from between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Houses from the 1920s and 1930s often have a bay window and a chimney breast in the front room, which shape where TV and media units go.

For a flat near New Malden station, it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. For families living near St Matthew's CofE Primary School, low doors that small hands can open, with books and ornaments higher up, suit a busy family room. Southside House, about 0.8 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standalone TV units cost less and arrive quickly. It’s also easy to replace a stand when your equipment changes. Bespoke units are made for one wall and the things you use. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors aren’t perfectly true, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

When you need someone else

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:

  • Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)
  • Repairing plaster or redecorating
  • Aerial, satellite or broadband installation

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Questions from Motspur Park

Will a conservation area stop me having TV and media units fitted in Motspur Park?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Motspur Park?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

It’s something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so it sits tight to the room.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.

Do you make good the walls afterwards?

No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.
