TV and media units in Raynes Park, Merton
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on TV and media units in Raynes Park starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.
- Standard units leaving gaps
- A big screen that dominates the wall
- Somewhere to keep games tidy

TV and media units in Raynes Park: what you get
Everything starts with the screen. The opening is planned around your current TV, or a bigger one if you are likely to upgrade. Viewing height matters too: we set it to suit the sofa, not the shape of the wall. Typical reasons to get in touch are a big screen that dominates the wall and a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Raynes Park, many homes have had the front and back rooms knocked together. The result is often a long room with a chimney breast, a good spot for TV and media units. Cable routes for a TV or speakers, and space for set-top boxes, are planned at the measuring visit.
We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

What affects the price in Raynes Park
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- Parking near your home
- Spray painting or hand painting
Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, written once we have measured up.
Getting in touch
What helps most when you first contact us:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- How you want to use the space
If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
Practical tips
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Plan open spaces for anything controlled by a remote
- Measure your TV, or the size you expect to buy next
- Check where the seating will go
- Count your equipment, including routers and consoles
Doors can settle a little once the unit is in use. Hinges can typically be adjusted to line them up again.
Do not stack boxes on top of each other in one space. Each one needs space around it.
How fitting works for TV and media units
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are typically straighter. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.
- You send us a note about the room and the unit you’d like.
- At the design visit we agree the layout and talk about colour and finish.
- You get a quote in writing covering the design, the materials and the finish.
- The unit is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which takes paint well, and birch plywood.
- The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, and any hand painting is done in the room. Go gently with new paintwork while it cures.
Preparing the room
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
How to get a quote
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

FAQs: TV and media units in Raynes Park
I live near Raynes Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Merton and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Raynes Park?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
Will my boxes get too hot inside the unit?
We plan ventilation into the unit for boxes, consoles and amplifiers. We give each box its own space.
Who chooses the colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.
Can I send pictures before the visit?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
How it is made
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be done on site once the unit is fitted. Small marks are simple to touch up.
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers suit games, controllers and remotes. They’re painted in the same colour as the rest.
Living-room storage in Raynes Park
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Raynes Park were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 48%) and before 1919 (about 25%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. 6 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Raynes Park. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Raynes Park is covered by it. We go through parking and access at the design visit.
For a flat near Raynes Park station, TV and media units are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Methodist Church, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. Close to Cannon Hill Common? TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it.
Raynes Park is within the London Borough of Merton, about 2 miles north-east of Wimbledon. Raynes Park is part of the area we cover, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Raynes Park is one of the places in Merton where we make TV and media units, and the borough has 20 places on our list.
In SW20, KT3 and SM4, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. Our area takes in homes on streets such as Gore Road, Edna Road and Wyke Road, along with the roads around them, for TV and media units and any of our other fitted furniture. The A238 and A298 runs close to Raynes Park; on busy main roads, unloading TV and media units takes a little planning. Other places close to Raynes Park include West Barnes (1 mile south-west), Bushey Mead (1 mile north-east), Cannon Hill (1 mile east), Motspur Park (1 mile north-west) and Wimbledon Chase (1 mile north-east). Other parts of Merton we cover include Wimbledon (2 miles north-east), Colliers Wood (3 miles east), Eastfields (3 miles east), South Wimbledon (2 miles north-east), Merton Abbey (2 miles east) and Mitcham (3 miles east).

Not far away are Derwent Floodwash.
Could you do it yourself?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
