Fitted Home Offices in Motspur Park

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on fitted home offices in Motspur Park starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

Fitted home offices in Motspur Park

A fitted home office gives your work a proper place in the house. Our home offices are made for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and loft rooms, planned around how you work. In Motspur Park, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. If your home has an awkward space with no furniture that fits and working at the kitchen table, that’s what home offices are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Motspur Park, if the loft has been converted, the space under the eaves can take a desk and storage. We build in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Or a desk can sit in an alcove or a bay.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Pricing fitted home offices in Motspur Park

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:

  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The width and height of the space

In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.

Before the design visit

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you contact us, it’s useful to send:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, get in touch through our contact form.

Could you do it yourself?

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf desks leave you to work out the cables. With a bespoke desk, cable routes are part of the design. It keeps things neat above and below the desk. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and those are common in interwar houses. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

FAQs: fitted home offices in Motspur Park

Can you make fitted home offices for a home in Motspur Park?

Yes. We cover all of Kingston upon Thames and the rest of London, and Motspur Park is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Motspur Park?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Can you fit sockets in the desk?

We don’t do electrical work, so sockets are for your electrician. The desk is planned with routes for cables and space for any sockets. We can agree where sockets should go when we visit.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it is useful to be around at the end.

Can you fit a desk under a sloping ceiling?

Yes, if the loft is already a converted room. Headroom is the main thing to plan around, so the desk sits where you can stand up. Shelving and cupboards can fill the lower space under the slope.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

It is made in sections, sized for the route not just the room. At the design visit, we measure the route as well as the room.

How to choose a carpenter in London

How fitting works for fitted home offices

You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. It is useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. You tell us how you work and where you’d like the office.
  2. We measure the room, look at the light and note the sockets.
  3. We agree the desk, shelving and storage, and send a written quote, with the finish set out.
  4. The office is made at our workshop and painted in your colour. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home and check every drawer and door with you.

Before fitting day

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Ask for a quote

We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
