What affects the price in Chingford Mount

Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Parking near your home
  • The width and height of the space

We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Before the design visit

These details help when you get in touch:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • How you want to use the space

A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. When you’re ready, send us a few details through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a written quote.

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Chingford Mount

Lighting makes a big difference in a dressing room. Wiring for new lights is a job for your electrician. We can plan the units so there’s space for the lighting you want and agree the details when we measure. If your home has a bedroom without crowded wardrobes and a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom, walk-in wardrobes made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

In a 1930s semi, the main bedroom often sits over the front room and its bay, so fitted storage typically goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Chingford Mount, so it is a room shape worth planning for. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.

The furniture is built in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

What happens on fitting day

At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
  3. A quote in writing follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
  4. The units are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Before fitting day

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Walk-in wardrobes in Chingford Mount: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 55% of the housing in the area around Chingford Mount, with about 13% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Chingford Mount include Church of All Saints (Grade II*), less than half a mile north, and Church of St Edmund (Grade II), under half a mile south-east. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. More than half of the homes in the area around Chingford Mount (about 55%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead.

If your home is one of the older houses near St Edmund's Church, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Bruce Castle, about 2.8 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. For a flat near Highams Park station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Practical tips

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Decide on doors or open storage before we measure
  • Have a clear-out before we measure
  • Think about long versus double hanging
  • Leave room for air behind hanging clothes

Keep heavy items low and lighter ones high and spread the weight along the rails. That keeps the hanging and shelves in good shape.

If the room is on an external wall, have any damp sorted first. External walls can be colder and damper, and ventilation inside the units helps.

Questions from Chingford Mount

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Chingford Mount?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Is Chingford Mount in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?

Yes, we work across Waltham Forest, Chingford Mount included, and across the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

We plan the route in at the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not typically. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.

Who chooses the colour?

You do. We agree the colour with you.

Is it better to have doors or open storage?

It is your choice. Doors keep dust off and give a calm, finished look, while open rails and shelves let you see everything. Many people choose a mix.

How it is made

Birch plywood

Shelves that carry piles of clothes need a strong board, and birch plywood suits them.

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, giving a smooth, even surface.
