How we make walk-in wardrobes for Leytonstone
A walk-in wardrobe can also be part of a bedroom. A corner or one end of a large bedroom can become a dressing area, with doors or left open. Building a new stud partition is building work, so that is for your builder, and we fit the furniture inside. Most enquiries start with hanging for coats, dresses and shirts and separate space for two people’s clothes, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Older London houses often have sash windows, and the window position and deep reveals affect where furniture can go. If your home is one of the many around Leytonstone built before 1919, we plan the layout so the window opens fully and the light still comes in. Doors are chosen and hung so they clear the bed, the radiator and the door to the room.
A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

From workshop to your room
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.

Flats, conversions and lettings
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so let us know about it at the design visit.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
How it’s made
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers keep smaller clothes and accessories tidy, and they can sit below the hanging or within a run of shelves.
Birch plywood
Drawer boxes take daily use, so we make them strong.
Tips worth knowing
A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:
- Count your shoes before the design visit
- Measure how much long hanging you need
- Wipe painted surfaces with a soft, damp cloth
- Leave room for air behind hanging clothes
Let air move through the walk-in wardrobe, particularly on a cooler external wall. Leave a little space behind hanging clothes, so air can circulate.
Talk to your electrician early about lighting. New lights and wiring are for them, and it’s easier to plan the units around it from the start.
FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Leytonstone
Is Leytonstone in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?
Yes, Leytonstone is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Waltham Forest and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.
My home in Leytonstone is a period house with walls that are not straight. Is that a problem?
Yes, that’s normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
Do I need doors on a walk-in wardrobe?
There is no single right answer. We can fit doors, open storage or both, and we’ll talk it through at the measuring visit.
What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each walk-in wardrobe is different, so we quote once we have measured. To get started, send us a few details through our contact form.
What happens at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
