Walk-in wardrobes across Waltham Forest: what to expect

With a walk-in wardrobe, clothes, shoes and bags have a space to themselves. We build them in spare rooms, box rooms and corners of bedrooms, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. We make it all in our workshop and fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and set level. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about moving wardrobes out of the bedroom and separate space for two people’s clothes.

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard.

  1. You get in touch with a few details about the room.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside.
  3. A quote in writing is sent to you.
  4. Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check every door and drawer.

How our quotes work

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit, then set it out in the quote.

Starting with a design visit

Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, message us from the contact page. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes across Waltham Forest

If your bedroom in Waltham Forest has a chimney breast, the alcoves either side are natural places for storage. In rooms without one, a full wall of storage often works best. Either way, each piece is fitted to the walls and floor as they are.

Homes built before 1919 make up about 45% of the housing in Waltham Forest, with about 19% built between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. About 45% of homes in Waltham Forest were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses of that age often have a small back bedroom or box room that can become a walk-in wardrobe. About 35% of households in Waltham Forest live in terraced houses, based on Census 2021. London terraces typically have a small back bedroom and alcoves in the main bedroom, both good spaces for fitted storage.

We cover the whole of London, so homes in Waltham Forest are well within our area. If you’re unsure about access or parking, mention it when you get in touch.

Walthamstow: If your children go to Greenleaf Primary School or a school nearby, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as ABC Cinema, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

Honest limits

Before you plan the job, it is useful to know what we do not do:

  • New lights or sockets
  • Building work to create the room
  • Fixing the cause of damp

When is bespoke worth it?

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

The problems walk-in wardrobes solve

Others want a dressing table built in alongside the storage. We can design a dressing table into the room next to the hanging and shoe storage.

A few of the things people ask us to solve include:

  • A dressing area in part of a bedroom
  • The right mix of long and short hanging
  • Separate space for two people’s clothes
  • More space for clothes and shoes

Boards, parts and paint

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, giving a smooth, even surface.

Moisture-resistant MDF

On a cooler external wall, moisture-resistant MDF is a sensible choice, alongside good ventilation.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

Questions from Waltham Forest

Should I send photos?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.

Is it better to have doors or open storage?

That depends on how you like to use the space. Doors, open rails and shelves can all be combined, and we will talk it through at the measuring visit.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

It’s something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so there are no gaps at the sides.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

How long will the walk-in wardrobe take to fit?

Every room is different. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you will know before we start.

Do you fit lighting in walk-in wardrobes?

No, that’s electrical work for your electrician. We make and fit the furniture and leave room for the lighting.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
