Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Crooked Billet

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Crooked Billet

Many London homes have a small room that is awkward as a bedroom. Lined with hanging and shelves, it can hold far more than a wardrobe in the bedroom, leaving the bedroom with more space. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. Typical reasons to get in touch are room for two wardrobes in one space and a dressing area in part of a bedroom, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Fitted furniture in a bedroom has to work with how you use the room. Whatever your home in Crooked Billet is like, the first question during the design visit is what the room needs to do. The layout, the doors and the inside follow from that. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted, in a colour agreed with you.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

What it costs

The price for your room depends on:

  • How big the furniture is
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • The internal fittings

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Helping us understand the room

Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • What the furniture needs to hold

You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To arrange it, use our contact form with a few details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Shelves

High shelves suit things you use less often, while daily things stay within reach.

Questions from Crooked Billet

Is parking a problem for fitting in Crooked Billet?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Crooked Billet?

Yes. Crooked Billet is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Merton and London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details.

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. It’s useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

How long does fitting take?

How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We will talk it through at the design visit.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You do. We agree the colour with you.

Is bespoke worth it?

There’s a place for both. In a square room with a tight budget, a ready-made system may be enough. Where the room is tricky or you want it to feel built in, bespoke is normally the better fit. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a recess, a slope or an odd corner, and most homes have one somewhere. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Bedrooms in Crooked Billet: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Crooked Billet were built before 1919 (about 34%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 21%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 12 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Crooked Billet. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your home is on or just off a main road, it’s useful to mention it. We can then plan where the van will stop.

If you live in a flat close to Raynes Park station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If you live in a period home close to Christ Church, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Near listed buildings like Southside House, less than half a mile south-east of the centre of Crooked Billet, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Fitting day, step by step

You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. It helps to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including anything on the walls near the work. Floors and doorways are protected before anything comes in. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.

  1. We start with the space and the clothes it needs to hold.
  2. We visit to measure up and go through the layout, including any dressing table.
  3. A quote follows, setting out the design and finish.
  4. The units are made and finished in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: the units are fitted and trimmed to the room. We then check the doors and drawers with you.

Preparing the room

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Advice

Tips worth knowing

The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:

  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Have a clear-out before we measure
  • Count your coats and long garments
  • Have damp sorted before fitting

If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can be touched in. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth.

A new partition wall is building work, so it comes before us. We fit the furniture once the room is ready.
