About our walk-in wardrobes in Hackbridge

Good light helps you see colours and find things, and any new lights or wiring are for your electrician. We plan the units with your electrician’s work in mind, and agree the details at the measuring visit. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are long and double hanging planned around your clothes and a side each for a couple.

A bedroom in a house from between the wars typically has simpler mouldings than a Victorian one, so fitted furniture can often run neatly to the ceiling. Around Hackbridge, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses are a big part of the housing, the top cupboards can hold suitcases and spare bedding. Skirting boards are cut around neatly.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we’ve designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished.

How fitting day works

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan hanging lengths, shelves, drawers and shoe storage with you.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the walk-in wardrobe.
  4. The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.

Before fitting day

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Getting a quote

If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, get in touch through our contact form.

Hanging rails

Long hanging is kept for coats and dresses, with double hanging elsewhere.

Moisture-resistant MDF

We use moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, giving a smooth finish.

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes

Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. What affects it comes down to:

  • How square the room is
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • The width and height of the space

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Before the design visit

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

To get a quote, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Hackbridge?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Mitcham Eastfields station?

Yes. We cover all of Merton and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

What happens when you come to measure?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

How long will the walk-in wardrobe take to fit?

The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll talk it through at the design visit.

Does my lease affect fitted furniture?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Neither choice is right for every home. For a simple space, off-the-shelf can do the job. For awkward rooms, period homes or a built-in look, a bespoke design tends to earn its place. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and interwar homes often have all three. Fitted furniture is made around them.

Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That is reflected in the quote.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Hackbridge

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Hackbridge were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 49%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 14%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. There are 5 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Hackbridge. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Merton sets its own rules. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking during the design visit.

For an older house near St. Mark's Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. For a flat near Mitcham Eastfields station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Base of Windmill at Mill House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.
