Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room

About our walk-in wardrobes in Enfield Highway

A walk-in wardrobe gives your clothes a room of their own. We build them in spare rooms, box rooms and corners of bedrooms, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. Everything is built in our workshop and fitted to the room, so it follows the walls and sits level. If you’re living with setting aside a corner of a large bedroom and proper shoe storage, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Enfield Highway, bedrooms are often simple shapes, sometimes with a chimney breast or a bay. Fitted furniture can run along the longest wall, with the inside arranged to suit you. Where a loft conversion has been added, the sloping ceiling can take storage too.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we have designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, as well as a bigger outlay. What you get is storage designed for what you own and the space you have. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in a few set depths, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Enfield Highway

Is parking a problem for fitting in Enfield Highway?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

Does a conservation area in or near Enfield Highway affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

The furniture is built in sections. At the design visit, we measure the route as well as the room.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

More than half of the homes in the streets around Enfield Highway (about 55%) date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Close to Gunpowder Park? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. Forty Hall, about 1.3 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

The problems walk-in wardrobes solve

After a loft conversion or a change of layout, a room may be left without a clear use. Many people choose to fit it out as a dressing room.

Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:

  • The right mix of long and short hanging
  • A walk-in wardrobe in a box room
  • A bedroom without crowded wardrobes
  • Shelves for shoes and bags

If your children go to Enfield Heights Academy or a school nearby, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

When is bespoke worth it?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You let us know about the room.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. We make the walk-in wardrobe in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
  6. We check everything with you, and fresh paint should be treated gently at first.

How to prepare

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance

Arranging a design visit
