About fitted wardrobes in EN1

You can choose hinged or sliding doors. Hinged doors open a whole section at once, though they need room in front to open. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, although only part of the wardrobe is open at a time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall and too little room for clothes.

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

  1. You tell us about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout.
  3. We put the design, materials and finish into a written quote. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
  4. We then make the wardrobes in our workshop.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, ready to use.

How our quotes work

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Why work with us

  • Scribed to uneven walls
  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • Every London borough and the City of London covered
  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood

Ask for a quote

Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, message us from the contact page. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Fitted wardrobes across EN1: local notes

Across EN1, from Edmonton, Bush Hill Park and Enfield Chase outwards, we design and fit fitted wardrobes. On an external wall, ventilation is designed in to help keep condensation away. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whatever it is made of.

In the EN1 postcode district, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 30%) and before 1919 (about 24%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. About 30% of homes in the EN1 postcode district date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. 10 of the 10 places in EN1 with their own pages here have their centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission.

Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, EN1 included. Wherever you are, the job starts with a design visit.

Enfield: Forty Hall, about 1.3 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. For a family home near Enfield Grammar School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

Do you need fitted wardrobes?

Couples often want storage that works for two. We can plan separate sections for each person, each with the rails, shelves and drawers its owner needs.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
  • Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors

Materials and finishes

Birch plywood

Wardrobe shelves can carry more weight than you’d think. Birch plywood keeps them flat.

Doors and drawer fronts

Doors can be plain, panelled or shaped to suit the room. You choose a colour that matches or contrasts with the room.

Looking after your furniture

These points come up often when people plan fitted wardrobes. They help before and after fitting:

  • Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
  • Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
  • Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
  • Work out the split between long and short hanging

Doors can settle a little once the wardrobes are filled. Hinges can usually be adjusted to line the doors up again, and sliding doors can be reset on their track.

Keep any ventilation gaps clear, especially where the wardrobe meets an outside wall. Watch for musty smells or marks on clothes and deal with any damp early.

Where other trades come in

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:

  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
  • Structural changes to the room
  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)

Flats, blocks and rented homes

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on leases.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in EN1

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

We plan the sections around the route into your flat. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.

What are your fitted wardrobes made from?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, depending on the part and the design. Your quote sets out the materials.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will talk you through what to expect beforehand.

Do pictures help?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.

Do you make good the walls afterwards?

No. Our work is the furniture, not the walls. We finish the furniture itself, as set out in your quote.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Is the furniture made to order?

It’s made in our workshop, to the design and sizes agreed after the design visit. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.
