The problems walk-in wardrobes solve
Some homes have a small room that never quite earns its keep. Fitted out as a walk-in wardrobe, it becomes part of everyday life instead of a store for odds and ends.
Walk-in wardrobes can help with:
- Room for a growing wardrobe
- Room for two wardrobes in one space
- Turning a box room into a dressing room
- A calmer, clearer bedroom
If you live in a flat close to Enfield Lock station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
Before you choose who makes it
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- How they handle walls that are not straight
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
Walk-in wardrobes in Enfield Lock
Some people want doors on everything; others like open shelves and rails. Doors keep dust off and give a calm look, and open rails make it quick to find things. The choice is yours, and we’ll go through it when we measure. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are separate space for two people’s clothes and moving wardrobes out of the bedroom.
Bedrooms in interwar houses often have a picture rail but a plainer ceiling than a Victorian room, which makes it simple to take fitted furniture up to the ceiling. Around Enfield Lock, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses are a big part of the housing, high cupboards make a good home for suitcases and spare bedding. The skirting is scribed around rather than removed.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Why bespoke in Enfield Lock?
Open rail systems are simple and adaptable, which suits some people well. Bespoke joinery lets you mix doors, drawers, shelves and hanging, in a finish that suits the house. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Fitted furniture is designed around them.
There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.

Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers keep smaller clothes and accessories tidy, and they can sit below the hanging or shelves.
Hanging rails
Long hanging is kept for coats and dresses, with double hanging elsewhere.
Enfield Lock homes and walk-in wardrobes
In the neighbourhood around Enfield Lock, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 36%) and the years since 2000 (about 20%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Enfield Lock is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Enfield Lock
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
I live near Enfield Lock station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Enfield and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
It is made in sections. At the design visit, we measure the route not just the room.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.
What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each walk-in wardrobe is different, so we price it after the design visit. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
How fitting day works
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop, a piece at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.
