Questions from Norbiton

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Norbiton station?

Yes, homes across Kingston upon Thames and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.

Is Norbiton in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?

Yes, we work across Kingston upon Thames, Norbiton included, and across the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Can you put a walk-in wardrobe in part of a bedroom?

Yes. A run of units can define a dressing area, and we fit the furniture once any building work is done.

Can I send photos before the visit?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form.

Is ventilation important in a dressing room?

Yes. A room full of clothes needs air moving through it, especially on an external wall, which can be colder and damper. We allow for ventilation in the design.

What happens at the measuring visit?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Walk-in wardrobes in Norbiton: what you get

You can have doors, open storage or a mix. Doors give a tidy, finished look and help keep dust away, while open storage lets you see everything at once. We will talk through the options during the design visit. If your home has separate space for two people’s clothes and a dressing table with drawers and a mirror, that’s what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Where housing is mixed, as in much of London, bedrooms range from box rooms to large rooms with bays and sloping ceilings. Fitted furniture can suit each, sized and laid out for the room. Every wall in Norbiton homes is measured on site, because none is assumed to be square.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

What it costs

Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:

  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The overall size of the piece

There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.

What we need to know

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Why bespoke in Norbiton?

Neither choice is right for every home. For a simple space, off-the-shelf can do the job. For tricky rooms, period homes or a built-in look, a bespoke design tends to earn its place. Few rooms have truly flat walls and level floors, so standalone furniture can lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Norbiton

Sharing one wardrobe between two rarely works for long. We can design separate areas for hanging, shelves and drawers, so both have room.

Some of the things we are asked to solve are these:

  • Somewhere to sit and get ready
  • Moving wardrobes out of the bedroom
  • Turning a box room into a dressing room
  • A walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom

Close to Canbury Gardens? Walk-in wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • How the furniture will be finished, and where

Living in a block of flats near Norbiton station? Then it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. For an older house near Church of St Peter, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

Before and after fitting day

Looking after painted furniture is simple with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Count your shoes before the design visit
  • Plan lighting with your electrician
  • Decide on doors or open storage before we measure
  • Measure how much long hanging you need

Adjustable shelves can be moved as your clothes change to suit what you store. It is worth a rethink each season.

If the room is on an external wall, have any damp sorted first. External walls can be colder and damper, and ventilation inside the units helps.

From workshop to your room

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. For a flat, building rules and lift booking are worth checking early; for a house, steps, paths and parking are the things to mention. Either way, the day is planned at the design visit. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. We come to measure and go through the design.
  3. You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. The units are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
  6. Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
