How we make bespoke kitchens for Norbiton

Some kitchens suit a dresser, with cupboards below and open shelves above, and it suits many period homes. We make dressers to fit the wall they stand against, scribed to follow it and painted to suit the room. If you are living with a larder for food and small appliances and more storage in a small kitchen, that is what kitchens are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Moving a sink or cooker means moving pipes and cables, which is a job for other trades. Whatever kind of home you have in Norbiton, we plan the layout with that in mind. Any changes to plumbing, electrics or gas are for your plumber, electrician or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register.

We write quotes in plain English, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Norbiton

About 24% of the homes in the area around Norbiton went up before 1919, and about 22% between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. The National Heritage List records 10 entries within half a mile of the centre of Norbiton. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Kingston upon Thames sets its own rules. If your road in Norbiton falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what the parking is like at the design visit.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Lovekyn Chapel, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. For an older house near Church of St Peter, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Norbiton

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Norbiton?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Norbiton?

Yes, we work across Kingston upon Thames, Norbiton included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details.

Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?

Yes. We scribe each cabinet to the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth, to give a level line for the worktop. That is a big part of why bespoke suits period homes.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. We cannot advise on leases, so please check yours.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.

Is bespoke worth it?

Many off-the-shelf kitchens use chipboard carcasses with a printed or wrapped finish. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, painted in colours you choose, so the finish can be repainted later. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a recess, a slope or an odd corner, and most homes have at least one. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, message us from the contact page.

Fitting day, step by step

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking varies a lot across London, from permit zones to private bays, so let us know what applies at the design visit. If you live in a flat, any lift or building rules are worth checking too.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
  3. A quote in writing follows for the cabinets, materials and finish. Plumbing, gas and electrics are not part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
  4. The cabinets are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home, working around your plumber, your electrician and an engineer on the Gas Safe Register.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Let us know about parking near your home

Getting a quote

To get a quote, message us from the contact page and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and a written quote follows.

Related advice

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Norbiton?

A common reason is a room that ready-made units don’t fit. Standard units are made in fixed sizes, leaving gaps at the ends and above. Bespoke cabinets are built to the real sizes from the start.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • Open shelves with cupboards below
  • A kitchen that fits an uneven room
  • Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
  • Spaces sized for your oven and fridge

For a family home near St Paul's CofE Primary School, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • Whether you will get a written quote, not just a figure
