Bespoke kitchens for your home in Bushey Mead

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Bushey Mead

A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Every unit is sized from careful measurements taken at the design visit, so there are no filler panels covering awkward gaps. The layout, storage and finish are planned with you before anything is built in our workshop. People usually come to us about a kitchen finished in your colours and cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Knocked-through kitchen-diners in older semis sometimes keep a chimney breast, which can frame a dresser or tall cupboards. Around Bushey Mead, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, that is a feature worth designing around. Any capped chimney stays ventilated.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Practical tips

New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in
  • Think about how you cook and what you store
  • Line up your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer early
  • Check stairs, hallways and lifts for access

Follow the appliance makers’ guidance for your oven, hob and dishwasher, and the care advice for your worktop.

Measure the route into the kitchen along with the room itself. Workshop-made furniture comes in sections sized for stairs, hallways and lifts, so let us know about tight turns or small lifts.

When is bespoke worth it?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

Bushey Mead homes and bespoke kitchens

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Bushey Mead were built before 1919 (about 39%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 33%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 10 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Bushey Mead. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. Around a third of the homes in the area around Bushey Mead (about 33%) date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Many houses of that era have had the kitchen extended or knocked through, so the kitchen is designed for the room as it is now.

Close to Cannon Hill Common? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. For a flat near Raynes Park station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

What affects the price in Bushey Mead

Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:

  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.

Before the design visit

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you contact us, it’s useful to send:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Approximate measurements of the space

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, then send a quote in writing. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To book a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

From workshop to your room

Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
  2. We visit, measure the walls, floor and ceiling, and go through the design.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
  5. We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician handle the plumbing, gas and electrics. We don’t arrange those trades, so it helps to book them early.

Before fitting day

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

Getting a quote

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Bushey Mead?

Flats with awkward kitchen walls are another reason. We can design for a galley, an alcove or a corner, so every run is used.

A few of the things people ask us to solve include:

  • Extra cupboard space
  • Tall larder storage
  • Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
  • A layout for a small or tricky room

Southside House, about 0.7 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Bushey Mead?

Yes. Bushey Mead is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Merton and London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Bushey Mead?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A small galley and a large kitchen with a larder and island are very different jobs, so we quote once we have measured. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

What are your kitchens made from?

Our kitchens are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?

Yes. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled, to give a level line for the worktop. That is a big part of why bespoke suits period homes.
