About our bespoke kitchens in Wimbledon

A kitchen needs other trades as well as a carpenter. Your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a kitchen that fits an uneven room and a dresser that suits a period house.

Whether your home in Wimbledon is a period house, an interwar semi, a post-war flat or a newer build, a bespoke kitchen starts with measuring the room. The worktop, sink and appliances you choose are built into the design. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

Looking after your furniture

These points come up often when people plan bespoke kitchens. They help whatever the room:

  • Line up your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer early
  • Think about how the cabinets will get in
  • Make sure an island will not crowd the room
  • Wipe up spills promptly

Hand-painted kitchens are easy to touch up. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth. Keep a note of the paint colours.

Talk to your plumber, electrician and an engineer on the Gas Safe Register early. The pipes, cables and gas supply need to suit the layout, so it helps if everyone knows the plan.

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens

The price for your room depends on:

  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit.

What to send when you contact us

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To share them, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, the sections are assembled, scribed to the walls and levelled. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
  2. We visit, measure the walls, floor and ceiling, and go through the design.
  3. You get a quote in writing for the cabinets, with the materials and finish set out.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician handle the plumbing, gas and electrics.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand

Arranging a design visit

A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you are ready, drop us a line using the contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

What prompts bespoke kitchens in Wimbledon

In many older homes, ready-made units struggle with lean and slope. Gaps and wavy lines are hard to hide, and a bespoke kitchen is scribed and levelled to avoid that.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • Room for everything in the kitchen
  • A kitchen that fits an uneven room
  • A painted dresser for the kitchen
  • Cabinets for a narrow kitchen

For families living near Wimbledon High School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Can you see real work of theirs?

Bespoke kitchens in Wimbledon: local notes

In the neighbourhood around Wimbledon, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 44%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 18%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 99 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Wimbledon. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and kitchens can be designed to work around them. If your street in Wimbledon is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay through the council may be needed. Parking near your home is worth mentioning during the design visit.

Near listed buildings like Parish Church of St Mary, under half a mile north of the centre of Wimbledon, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Wimbledon

Does a conservation area in or near Wimbledon affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

I live near Wimbledon station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Merton and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room.

Can I have a kitchen island?

Yes, where there’s space. We measure during the design visit to check there is room to walk round it and open doors. If it would crowd the kitchen, we will say so.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

We plan the route in at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Will you connect the sink and appliances?

No, those are jobs for other trades. Your plumber connects the sink and dishwasher, a Gas Safe engineer handles any gas, and your electrician does the wiring, and we fit the cabinets.

Can I send pictures before the visit?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.
