Fitted cupboards for your home in Chelsfield

Fitted cupboards in Chelsfield: what you get

A utility or boot room has to work hard, every day. Tall cupboards can take the vacuum cleaner, ironing board and cleaning things, with housing for a washing machine or tumble dryer where you want it. Plumbing is for your plumber and new sockets for your electrician, so we plan the cupboards around their work. We make fitted cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are tall cupboards where space is short and storage for coats and shoes in the hallway.

An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Much of the housing around Chelsfield is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Lids, doors and drawers are set level on site so they run true.

The quote comes in writing, so there is time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Before and after fitting day

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:

  • Deal with any damp walls first
  • Think about what each cupboard will hold
  • Check your lease if you live in a flat
  • Point out anything that needs access

If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can normally be touched in. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and small marks can often be cleaned off with a soft cloth. It’s worth keeping a record of the colour.

It is useful to list what you want to store before we measure. A coat cupboard and a linen cupboard need quite different insides, so it helps to know this early.

From workshop to your room

On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the space and anything in it that needs access is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure and plan the cupboard so meters, fuse boards and any boiler stay easy to reach.
  3. A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the cupboards in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with vents and access panels where they’re needed.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Starting with a design visit

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a quote in writing. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

FAQs: fitted cupboards in Chelsfield

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Chelsfield?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Can you build cupboards for a boot room?

Yes. Utility and boot rooms can have tall cupboards, shelves, benches and appliance spaces. Your plumber connects washing machines and sinks, and your electrician handles any sockets, and we plan the cupboards around their work.

Can a fitted cupboard cover the meters and fuse board?

Yes. We can build a cupboard that hides them neatly and still leaves them reachable. We don’t move meters or fuse boards; that’s for your supplier or an electrician.

What do fitted cupboards cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The size, the inside layout and the finish all make a difference. To arrange a design visit, message us from the contact page.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

It is made in sections. At the design visit, we measure the route along with the room itself.

Why bespoke in Chelsfield?

Flat-pack cupboards can be put together quickly by a confident DIYer, which is a fair point in their favour. Ours takes more planning: a design visit, a quote, making and fitting, and in return the cupboard is built for your home. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors aren’t perfectly true, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Flats, leases and landlords

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.
