Chelsfield Loft Storage
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on loft storage in Chelsfield starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.
- Standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs
- An empty dormer that could hold shelves
- Low eaves that nobody can use
Loft storage designed for your room
Could you do it yourself?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
Loft storage in Chelsfield
Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. We do not carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. Once the room is finished, we can design storage to suit it. If you have a converted loft in Chelsfield, the design visit is the first step. If you’re living with standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs and clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom, eaves cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.
An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Around Chelsfield, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Each piece is levelled on site, so doors, lids and drawers line up.
Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

What it’s made from
Doors and drawer fronts
The doors and drawer fronts are the face of the storage. We make them plain or panelled, with handles to match. Their tops follow the line of the slope.
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is made in layers, which makes it strong and stable. It goes into the carcasses, the shelves and the drawers, with the edge either shown or painted.
Questions we’re often asked
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Chelsfield station?
Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Chelsfield?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.
How do you get large pieces into a loft?
Measuring the route is part of the design visit. We size every section for the tightest turn, and the pieces are put together in the room.
Chelsfield homes and loft storage
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Chelsfield were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 59%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 18%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. There are 22 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Chelsfield. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Bromley included. Vans bringing furniture to Chelsfield fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We go through parking and access during the design visit.
For an older house near Church of St Martin of Tours, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. Close to Hewitt's Chalk Bank? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Why people ask for loft storage in Chelsfield
Loft rooms that double as offices or guest rooms need places for things. Built-in storage under the slopes keeps the room flexible.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- A boarded loft with no proper shelving
- Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
- Wasted space behind the knee walls
- A loft room with too many jobs
Near listed buildings like Church of St Martin of Tours, under half a mile south-west of the centre of Chelsfield, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- A quote in writing that sets out the job
What happens on fitting day
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.
- You get in touch and tell us about your converted or boarded loft.
- We visit to measure the eaves and slopes and talk through the design, including the headroom under the slope.
- A quote in writing follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
- The cupboards and drawers are made at our workshop, in sections sized for the loft stairs.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the slopes and the walls, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
How to prepare
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
Ask for a quote
It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them over, use our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Advice
Flats, conversions and lettings
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you get in touch.
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
