Bespoke kitchens for homes in Hendon

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. We plan each space around the appliances you have chosen, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. People typically come to us about open shelves with cupboards below and a kitchen finished in your colours, and the answer is made in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Around Hendon, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the original kitchen was probably small, and many have since been extended or opened up. The cabinets are designed for the room as it is today, with an island where space allows.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Hendon

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 45% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Hendon, with about 20% built before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. There are 19 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Hendon. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Barnet included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Hendon. We go through parking and access during the design visit.

For a flat near Hendon station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. Close to Hendon Park? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. For families living near Hendon School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.

Why bespoke in Hendon?

Neither choice is right for every home. In a simple modern kitchen, off-the-shelf can be enough. Where the room is tricky, the house is older or you want a painted kitchen that suits it, bespoke is typically worth considering. Off-the-shelf units come in set widths, so a run along a wall typically ends with a gap, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can use the full height too.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that’s part of the price. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Hendon

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Hendon station?

Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Hendon?

Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London, and Hendon is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

How much time does fitting need?

How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will talk it through at the measuring visit.

Do I get to choose the colour?

The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.

Can I have a kitchen island?

Where space allows, yes. There has to be comfortable space on every side, and we measure for it at the measuring visit. If the room is narrow, we will suggest other layouts.

Can you fit cabinets to walls that aren’t straight?

Yes, that is part of the job. Few walls in a period house are straight, so we scribe and level every cabinet.

What happens on fitting day

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are typically straighter. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. First, you tell us about the room.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and planning the layout.
  3. You receive a written quote, setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The kitchen is built in our workshop.
  5. The cabinets are fitted in your home, with plumbing, gas and electrics by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician. It is useful to have those trades booked in good time.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Starting with a design visit

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Advice

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We can’t advise on your lease.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.
