About our loft storage in High Barnet

Sloping ceilings make standard wardrobes hard to fit. We shape wardrobes to the slope, putting hanging space at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it’s low. It makes the most of the room’s height. We’ll plan it at the measuring visit in High Barnet. Typical reasons to get in touch are a dormer that isn’t being used and low eaves that nobody can use; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around High Barnet, many have had the loft converted, leaving low eaves and sloping ceilings. Fitted storage can make use of the eaves, the bay or the hall. We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded.

Our quotes are written in plain words. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish.

Loft storage for homes in High Barnet

About 42% of the homes in the streets around High Barnet went up before 1919, and about 25% between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. There are 42 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of High Barnet. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. We can then plan where the van will stop.

If you live in a period home close to Christ Church, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. For a flat near Hadley Wood station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

High Barnet is about 4 miles south of Finchley, within the London Borough of Barnet. From period terraces to newer flats in High Barnet, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Our Barnet coverage includes High Barnet and the places around it.

We make loft storage across EN5. Streets in the area include Byng Road, Park Road and Kings Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for loft storage. What affects the price in High Barnet

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:

  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • The internal fittings
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The overall size of the piece

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Before the design visit

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. It is enough to send:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved

To get a quote for loft storage in High Barnet, fill in our short enquiry form. Let us know the room and the rough idea, plus any rough sizes. We’ll arrange a design visit, then send a quote in writing.

FAQs: loft storage in High Barnet

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Hadley Wood station?

Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make loft storage for a home in High Barnet?

Yes, we work across Barnet, High Barnet included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details.

How do you get large pieces into a loft?

Every piece is made in sections that fit up the stairs. At the design visit, we measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landings. That way, even a large wardrobe can reach the loft.

How is loft storage priced?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The mix of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and the finish, all play a part. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No. Our work is storage in loft rooms that are already converted, or in boarded lofts. Loft conversions are building work, with Building Regulations to follow. Once your loft is converted, we can design the storage.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

In a loft room, walls and floors are seldom square. Standard furniture leaves visible gaps. Our storage is scribed to the room and set level, so the lines look right. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

How fitting works for loft storage

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the loft and the stairs up to it.
  2. At the design visit we plan the storage and measure the stairs, landings and loft doorway. Tell us about parking too, as a van often needs a permit or a paid bay.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. We build the storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to get up to the loft.
  5. The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.

How to prepare

Caring for painted furniture

A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:

  • Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
  • Mention any parking rules on your street
  • Empty the eaves so we can see what’s behind
  • Find out what’s behind the eaves, from insulation to vents

A hand-painted finish is easy to touch up if it gets marked. It’s worth keeping a record of the paint colour. If anything is not right with the storage, use our contact form and we’ll talk it through.

Leave room for air to move behind the storage. Squashed insulation works less well. If you notice damp or condensation behind the eaves, ask whoever converted the loft.

Do you need loft storage in High Barnet?

The most common reason is wasted space. Behind the knee walls, there is space nobody can reach. Built-in storage makes that space useful.

People usually get in touch with us about things like these:

  • Boxes piled on loft boards
  • Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
  • A new loft conversion that needs storage
  • A dormer that isn’t being used

If your children go to Foulds School or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.

What to check before you book

  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • Whether you will get a written quote, not just a figure
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • How parking will work on your street
