Bespoke kitchens for homes in Thames View Estate
We make the cabinets; the worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose. We plan each space around the appliances you have chosen, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. If your home has spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets and a painted dresser for the kitchen, that’s what kitchens are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
An island needs space around it to work, and not every kitchen has that. Around Thames View Estate, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, and some of those kitchens have been opened up enough to take one. The space around any island is measured at the measuring visit, along with where water and power would need to reach. Services to an island are for your plumber and electrician.
A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Fitting day, step by step
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Interwar houses typically have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, though we still measure the route in along with the room itself. Kitchens arrive in sections and are assembled in place.
- We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold.
- We visit to measure and go through the design and storage. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
- A quote follows, covering the design and finish.
- We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
- Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer handle the services. We do not arrange these trades ourselves.
Preparing the room
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Advice
Do you need bespoke kitchens in Thames View Estate?
In a flat, the kitchen may share a wall with the living space or sit in a narrow galley. We can design for a galley, an alcove or a corner without wasting space.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- Open shelves with cupboards below
- A kitchen planned around your appliances
- A pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers
- A central island in a larger kitchen
If you live in a flat close to Barking Riverside station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.
Before you hire any carpenter
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?

Flats, conversions and lettings
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the design visit.
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
What it is made from
Spray-painted finish
We spray paint in the workshop for a smooth, factory-like finish.
Moisture-resistant MDF
A painted MDF door looks crisp and even, in a kitchen as anywhere.
What it costs
Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:
- How big the furniture is
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- The number of doors and drawers
Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
What to send when you contact us
Ahead of the design visit, we’ll typically ask about:
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- What the furniture needs to hold
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, drop us a line using the contact form.

About 32% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Thames View Estate went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 31% since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Questions we are often asked
I live near Barking Riverside station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Barking and Dagenham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Thames View Estate?
Yes, Thames View Estate is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Barking and Dagenham and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character may need listed building consent, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.
How much time does fitting need?
The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
