About our bespoke kitchens in Chadwell Heath

We often use moisture-resistant MDF in kitchens, because it stays stable and takes paint beautifully. For drawer boxes and shelves, birch plywood is a good choice. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in the colours you choose. Typical reasons to get in touch are a central island in a larger kitchen and open shelves with cupboards below, and the answer is made in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Around Chadwell Heath, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the walls are often straighter than in a Victorian house, but they’re still measured carefully. Each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site. Other trades do the gas, plumbing and electrics.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

What happens on fitting day

Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are usually straighter. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. We start with how you use the kitchen and what isn’t working.
  2. We come to measure up and plan the layout with you.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the design, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Let us know about parking near your home

Arranging a design visit

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. To send them, message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Advice

Questions we are often asked

I live near Chadwell Heath station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Barking and Dagenham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Chadwell Heath?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. Your quote sets out what’s included.

Does my lease affect fitted furniture?

Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.

Can you fit cabinets to walls that aren’t straight?

Yes. We scribe each cabinet to the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth, to give a level line for the worktop. That is a big part of why bespoke suits period homes.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you.

How it’s made

Plinths and scribe strips

We use plinths and adjustable feet to level the units on a sloping floor. Scribe strips close the gap to a wall that isn’t straight.

Birch plywood

We use birch plywood where strength matters, which suits drawer boxes and shelves. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.

Where other trades come in

Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Plumbing, which is for your plumber
  • Any work on the gas supply
  • Making good walls and ceilings

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood
  • Larders and dressers
  • Islands where space allows
  • Spray-painted finish

Caring for painted furniture

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Line up your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer early
  • Let us know how parking works on your street
  • Make a note of what you use every day
  • Wipe up spills promptly

Follow the appliance makers’ guidance for your oven, hob and dishwasher, and the care advice for your worktop.

Think about how the cabinets will get in. Workshop-made furniture comes in sections sized for stairs, hallways and lifts, so tell us about tight turns or small lifts.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Chadwell Heath

About 40% of the homes in the area around Chadwell Heath went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 32% between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Chadwell Heath include Granary to North West of Crown Farmhouse (Grade II), less than half a mile east, and Crown Farmhouse (Grade II), about 0.5 miles east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Barking and Dagenham sets its own rules. Depending on your street in Chadwell Heath, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.

Living in a block of flats near Chadwell Heath station? Then kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. The wider area includes historic houses like Hare Hall, about 2.9 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. If your children go to Warren Junior School or a school nearby, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen.

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?

Neither choice is right for every home. In a simple modern kitchen, off-the-shelf can be enough. For period homes, awkward rooms or a painted look, bespoke tends to earn its place. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and those are common in interwar houses. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
