  • Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors

Fitted wardrobes designed for your room

About our fitted wardrobes in Thames View Estate

Doors can be hinged or sliding. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, though they need room in front to open. Sliding doors save that space in a narrow room, but only part of the inside is open at any one time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. If you’re living with space under the eaves going to waste and a room too narrow for hinged doors, that is what fitted wardrobes are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, so fitted storage normally goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Around Thames View Estate, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so it is a room shape worth planning for. Every wall is measured, as a room that looks square rarely is.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Modular interior systems can be rearranged easily, and that flexibility is useful. A bespoke interior is planned around your clothes from the start, and we can include adjustable shelves where you want flexibility. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can also go up to the ceiling rather than stopping short.

Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, written once we have measured up.

Why us?

  • Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
  • Every London borough and the City of London covered
  • Saturday visits and fitting by arrangement
  • We visit, measure and talk through the design before we quote

How fitting day works

In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. You get in touch and let us know what you keep in your wardrobes now.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the inside with you, from rail heights to drawer depths.
  3. A written quote follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
  5. We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Starting with a design visit

If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Looking after your furniture

A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:

  • Look at how many long coats and dresses you have
  • Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
  • Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
  • Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations

With sliding doors, vacuum the track now and then to keep them running smoothly. Do not let shoes or bags sit in the track.

Let doors close gently rather than slamming, and keep sliding doors from crashing into the ends. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.

What it costs

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:

  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What we need to know

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Approximate measurements of the space

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To book a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

About 31% of homes in the area around Thames View Estate were built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Newer homes often have compact bedrooms with plasterboard stud walls, so fitted pieces use the full height and are fixed into the studs.

For a flat near Barking Riverside station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. For families living near Thames View Infants, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Close to Mayesbrook Park? Honest limits

Not everything around fitted wardrobes is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here’s what to know:

  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
  • Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Thames View Estate

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Thames View Estate?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

I live near Barking Riverside station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Barking and Dagenham and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. Sloping ceilings are common in loft conversions, and fitted wardrobes are one of the best ways to use them. The slope is measured during the design visit and the wardrobe scribed to it on site.

Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?

Yes, as long as it’s ventilated. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we plan airflow behind and within it, which helps avoid condensation.

How do I get started?

Just get in touch through our contact form. Rough measurements and a few photos help, and we will arrange a design visit.

What happens at the design visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and a written quote follows.
